Zooey Deschanel's Golden Globe Mani: DIY Tuxedo Nail Art Tutorial
When our fave 'It' gal and resident stylish lady, Zooey Deschanel rolled up to the Golden Globes wearing a lime green and black embellished gown, we weren't overly enthused, but her cute 'do, makeup and killer mani won us over.
Zooey had the perfect tuxedo nail art to match the retro and quirky feel of the rest of her outfit. We thought this mani was way too cute so of course we absolutely had to try it out ourselves!
What you'll need:
White and black nail polish (or colours of your choice)
Dotting tool (or orange stick, bobby pin or thin paint brush)
Step 1:
Paint your base coat. We're using Sally Hansen Hard As Nails in White Tip.
Step 2:
In the top middle of your nail, paint one dot. If you don't have a dotting tool on hand, try DIYing one. Check out this video for ideas and instructions. We're using Forever 21 Love & Beauty Nail Polish in Black.
Step 3:
Using your dotting tool, paint two dots beside the middle one, on either side. Still using your dotting tool, flare the dots out slightly. Painting with the smaller pointed end, join them together by either painting or dotting to create the bow tie. You can also use a nail polish made for nail art or a small paint brush for this step.
Step 4 + 5:
First, paint a horizontal stripe across the bottom part of your nail. We're doing this freehand, similar to how we created the candy corn nail art design. We found it easiest this way, by painting the stripe in one go quickly and smoothly. However, if you don't have the steadiest hand, try taping off your nail to easily guide you. Next, paint dots going down the middle of your nail as cute little buttons.
The Final Product:
Loving my tuxedo mani! I think my nails and I are ready to attend our first black tie event!

Those are some super cute nails. I wonder how easy it would be to do yourself.
So cute! I think it'd look even better with a couple more buttons :) If you don't have a dotting tool try sticking a pin (the ones you use for sewing) into the eraser at the back of a pencil!
That is amazing. i REALLY need a dotting tool, you've convinced me :D
How adorable! Just goes to show you don't have to have your nails done professionally to look good. Thanks for the instructions and pictures. I'm going to try this :)
