Don't believe the bad reviews
Ok, I've been going to Buff for at least 5 years. The ambiance is nice; pink, black and white decor. The whole front wall is a window which lets in lots of natural light. It's clean and comfortable and pretty. They take walk-ins whenever they can and if your appointment goes past their closing time, they stay, they don't rush and they make sure your nails are dry. I have terribly dry feet and they spend a lot of time sloughing and smoothing my skin to help me combat this during the summer when it's worse. They do not charge extra for that, as someone said. Nor do they charge for the flip flops. They do speak their own language to each other, but I never care about things like that. The price point is a big higher than other places Ive been to and some of the ladies don't massage your hands/feet and legs quite as long as others. That said, it's still a nice experience to sip my tea or coffee or water they brought me and just relax and people watch through the window. (oh, and they have extra umbrellas if you get caught on a rainy day. No charge... they just give you the umbrella). :)
I went to Buff for a birthday manicure at about 4 or 4:30 pm and they were supposed to close at 5 but instead of throwing us out, they held the salon open, didn't rush us and gave us manicures. I thought this was really great of them! They were also really friendly and didn't resent us for coming in so late.
As for my manicure, it was pretty stamdard to be honest. Nothing spectacular about it, but nothing really bad either. The price was a little higher than I would normally pay for a manicure, considering I am a student though. The ambiance and the spot itself are pretty cute, they have great windows with lots of natural light, and comfy chairs and everything is pretty and girly- which I think it fun for a manicure place.
I would recommend this place, but for an everyday manicure, it is a bit expensive.
So I had been going to the hairdressers at Buff Nail Lounge for around a year - generally getting my hair trimmed and blonde highlights added.
I decided to dye my blonde hair red, which I did myself - and maintained it for around 3 months.
However, I was getting bored of the colour, and went back to the 'salon' to get my hair dyed back to blonde.
The 'hairdresser' didn't seem to think that would be a problem, and started putting extreme amounts of high percentage bleach on my hair. She kept checking it and saying 'no...we need to put more on.'
Now call me naive...I assumed she knew what she was doing.
Until....my scalp was burning so much I was crying from the pain - and she combed my hair AND IT WAS FALLING OUT!!!!
End result being: I lost half my hair, the rest of it was in such a poor condition it didn't even resemble human hair, and my scalp was so burnt I couldn't sleep on it for days and it's constantly dry. Oh, and my hair turned orange.
Do you know what she said to me?? Well, you know, you should never dye your own hair....this is what happens.... Are you serious??!!
I just want to stress to ANYONE thinking of getting their hair dyed there...DON'T DO IT!! 6 months on and my hair is so short (had to go to a respectable hairdressers to get it all chopped off) and I still haven't managed to grow out all the dead ends. Oh, and it's still not blonde!!
Pretty crappy way to learn the hard way...however I now know to pay a bit more and go to a decent salon! Don't do it guys - they don't know what they're doing!!!!
Buff is great! I came into buff the other day and was so pleased with my service (mani/pedi btw), even my young daughter came with me and they painted her toes in a pretty pink and put nail jewels on, she loved it!
I was just reading the reviews for Buff and I am in complete shock. Buff is my regular nail salon and I find it to be very friendly and a very cool, trendy salon. I have never had a bad visit in the past 4 years I have been going. I give Buff a very highly recommendation.
Really cute shop. Loved the pink theme and the trendy vibe. Great music, friendly atmosphere. The service was good and will definitely go back.
My experience at Buff was terrible. When I walked in the receptionist was talking on her cell phone and when I walked up to the desk she acted as if helping me was a burden. I should have walked out right then but figured she might just be having a bad day. After picking my color, I sat down with my manicurist and she rushed through the buffing and filing. One base coat, ONE color and a quick top coat, she put away her supplies and directed me back to the receptionist to pay. $25 later I walked out less than impressed and with smudged, wet nails. Save your money and don't go to Buff. You'll save both time and money
I bought a mani/pedi on groupon. When I called to make the appointment once I said groupon she said oh -- I said is that a problem. Oh no she said. That should have been my clue. When I arrived gave my name and she said ok someone would be with me. Gee as I have never been there I had to ask where I could hang my coat. Over there -- I was told -- a hook. Worst pedicure I have had -- my feet were not smooth afterwards. So now I go for the manicure -- paying more for the french mani and pedi -- tipped lots -- again one coat. Gee guess what yeah it was smudged the next day. Went off on vacation and oh the mani lasted 3 days before it started all coming off and I was not doing anything but sunning. No cooking, cleaning -- I was on holidays. Never again. Save your money
Went to Buff a couple of weeks ago for the first time. I actually liked the atmosphere....definitely not a high-end "spa" but very comfortable and had a really great energy. My service (mani/pedi) was fast and well done. There were lots of magazines to read (I went alone) and a large flat-screen TV on one wall (no sound) to watch while I was getting my nails done. All in all, I'd say Buff is good value for the price (when I went, they had a super great $40 special for manicure & pedicure). I'll definitely be back!
I recently visited Buff Nail Lounge for a manicure/pedicure and they were terrible. I agree with Ringo that it looks nice on the outside but inside it is gloomy and dark and dull. I have been to a few spas for a mani/pedi and in all these places I have gone for a pedicure I have never had to pay $1.00 for the slippers they put on your feet only to be disposed of at the end. Nail buff also charges extra for callouses which aren't even a part of the Basic Manicure/Pedicure package they charge for $55.00. There are much better places charging lower rates for better service. I thought the rule of thumb for pedicures is that it is understood that callouses, a complete scrubbing, etc. are all part of a normal pedicure. That didn't happen with this place. Sure they do a special brown sugar scrub that makes your skin feel nice and soft but that was the only thing that was different. The staff were very unprofessional in their manner and the receptionist seemed more interested in her phone calls than providing proper customer service. I found the staff not just trying to make conversation but very interrogating in wanting to know my business and they lacked social graces. Also, what nail lounge have you ever been to whether it be low end or high end that doesn't have a dryer for your feet and hands. Buff nail did not have dryers you just had to sit there and wait for your nails to dry. I would not recommend going there if you want a decent manicure/pedicure.
