10 Delicious Recipe Twists for Chocolate Cake

Were you aware that January 27th is the best day of the year? What, you weren't?! Why, it's only Chocolate Cake Day!

Let me repeat that. Chocolate. Cake. Day.

In honour of this prestigious holiday, we rounded up 10 recipe twists on your basic chocolate cake. These aren't your average black forest cakes, these are some totally drool-worthy chocolate cake recipes with ingredients like Guinness, pumpkin and red velvet! So have I got your attention? Good. Read on.

(clockwise from top left)

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake with Chocolate Ganache: These ingredients make an unexpected pairing, but the added pumpkin keeps the cake moist--and could you claim it as one of your daily veggie servings?  Sure, why not.

Chocolate-Peanut Butter Cheesecake with Chocolate Glaze: There's a reason chocolate and peanut butter are besties, and the proof is in this cake.

Red Velvet Chocolate Cake: Red velvet is one of my personal favourite flavours already, so adding chocolate would be even more delectable (if that's possible).

Chocolate-Ginger Cake with Bourbon Sauce: Ginger is one of the best winter time spices!  Eating gingery goodies just warms you through and through (the bourbon probably will help with that too).

Flourless Chocolate Cake with Almond Whipped Cream: I really think that flourless chocolate cake is seriously underrated. It's gooey and moist and I love the whipped cream topping.

(clockwise from top left)

Salted Caramel Six Layer Chocolate Cake: I'm a big fan of salty-sweetness and the fact that there are six layers just make this even more appealing.

Guinness Chocolate Cake: Speaking of salty-sweetness (and booze), I think this chocolate cake with a burst of Guinness would be amazing with a sweet butter cream frosting.

Coconut Chocolate Cake with Raspberries: This version with summery raspberries and exotic coconut is a year-round hit.

Homemade Snickers Chocolate Cake: Mmmmm, Snickers in cake form is a slice of heaven right there.

Molten Lava Cake: Lava cake has a simpler flavour profile (it's chocolate on chocolate) but the liquid centre just takes it to another level.

Which of these cakes is catching your eye?

That pumpkin bundt cake may have stolen my heart.. I'll definitely be making one!
I'm so glad to have a recipe for molten lava cake now too -- it completely makes me melt. Plus I've always found it special to have individual desserts for each guest at a party, which lava cake is perfect for.

Okay, the salted caramel 6 layer chocolate cake looks to DIE for. Next 'big' thing i'm baking is definitely this.
