10 Stylish Essentials for the Most Flattering Summer Ever

The summer in Toronto is hot and the humidity makes it so that you don't even want to leave your air conditioned house. Or, if you are like me and don't have air conditioning, you actually look forward to going to work so you can get a break from the non stop, intense heat. So, short shorts it is!

Then, it gets cooler at night and you're left shivering in short shorts. Or we get non stop rain and that totally bums you out even more because you can't wear your fave new short shorts.

This bananas weather makes it so that you kind of just want to give up when it comes to fashion and style. Give me a burlap sack dress and let's call it a day, shall we?

Well, I think we can do better. I found 10 essential pieces to add to your summer wardrobe that are not only super easy "throw on" items, but they're also universally flattering!

1. Oversized button down is great for the heat and looks good with everything and on everyone: Free People Oversize Button Down (C$90.66)

2. High waisted, A-Line Skirt creates or emphasizes a feminine figure: Banana Republic Circle Skirt (C$95.00)

3. Clean, form fitted blazer shows off shape: Ann Taylor Eyelet Jacket (US$128.00)

4. For cooler nights or days, opt for slimming dark wash: Forever 21 Classic Denim Skinny Jeans (C$12.80)

5. Point toe shoes elongate the leg, try a flat for comfort: Qupid Pointy Toe Flats (US$18.80)

1. Long, lean lines and high waist for slim, long legs: J Crew Collection Pleated Wool Silk Pant (US$139.99, on sale)

2. A deep V-neck and embellishments make your neck and chest the focal point: Anthropologie Split Image Top (US$58.00)

3. Wrap dresses and deep V-necks make your waist appear small: Merona Women's Kimono Sleeve Maxi Dress (US$29.99)

4. Gathering at the side of the pencil skirt shows off curves: Zara Draped Sarong Skirt (C$59.90)

5. Wedges give height and more support than a heel: Zara Cork Wedge with Ankle Strap (C$99.90)

I picked up a white over sized button down top last year and I love it. I wear it on it's own, but I also wear it over a tank top when I'm grocery shopping so I don't freeze to death in the dairy and meat sections.
I also really like those skinny jeans, the split image top and the pencil skirt
