So, you're not exactly a cleverly crafty individual? Maybe you're arts and crafts track record is less than stellar. And yes, maybe your idea of DIY is opening the phone book and calling an interior decorating (because, hey, you did technically do that yourself, didn't you?). That's okay, because I have the perfect fool proof crafting ingredient: chalkboard paint

Chalkboard paint is perfect because it's so simple to use and takes minimal effort. When you're finished, you've turned something blah in something ba-bang! It makes a basic, everyday item and turns into something really unique and personalized! Plus, just like mason jars, this product is multi-purpose, all you need to get started is a little inspiration and imagination! To prove this, we rounded up 17 crafty DIY projects you can try with some chalkboard paint.

Time to roll your sleeves up and start getting arty chicks!

Chalkboard paint on a chest of drawers makes for an easy way to know where your long lost tee is. As a bonus, this chalk enthusiast also did a DIY number on a lamp shade. Paint over your headboard and you've got a fun message to wake up to every morning. A chalkboard globe is a cool alternative to the traditional chalkboard and can be done on the cheap with a thrifted globe.

While a chalkboard wall is a great idea in pretty much any room, I especially like the thought of painting a kitchen wall with chalkboard paint. It would make for a handy place to store your grocery lists, recipe instructions and a fun place for bored kids to get creative. Paint a mirror or picture frame to turn into a chalkboard. I think these would be perfect places to leave a few words of wisdom.

Chalkboard painted labels on jars can be used for storing all of your spices and dry ingredients. When you're out of an ingredient, you can just erase the label and start again. Painting your herb or flower pots is a great way to label and keep track of what's where. For a formal dinner, small chalkboard painted wooden blocks make for simple and rustic place cards. For a buffet style dinner, they make the perfect labels for foods.

Chalkboard covered wine bottles for a party or a blind wine tasting would be a quirky way to dress up the table. While you can use these bottles for their intended purpose, I like to re-purpose mine as vases or centre pieces. Paint the bottom of a wine glass to easy identify whose drink is whose. This nifty trick is exactly what you need at your BBQs this summerA chalkboard mug is one of the easiest and cheapest crafts. Plus, think of how much more fun your morning cup of coffee will be now that you can draw on your cup!

I love the idea of a chalkboard table! It reminds me of those paper covered tables you could draw on in restaurants as a kid. It would make dinner way more exciting and leave a place for any dinner guests to write you a little note. If you don't want to go all the way with a table, why not try a chalkboard tray first? It adds some flare to a self-serve style dinner or lunch. Complete your chalkboard DIY table with labels on chairs.

Easter may have recently passed, but we can still be in the spirit right? For your next holiday, why try chalkboard painting your eggs? A cute project I recently came across was chalkboard jewelry. I like the idea of this simple pendent necklace that you're also able to write on. Speaking of writing on, why not have some fun with a chalkboard fridge? A bonus is, you'll be able to easily track what foods you have in stock.

Have you ever tried crafting with chalkboard paint? What DIY project have you done or would you try out with chalkboard paint?

All of these are great Ideas. My sister in-laws father put a really big
chalkboard up on one of the their up stairs hall way walls when he
built the family home over 50 years ago. It was used by his kids the
grand kids and is still used today by the great grand kids. It makes for
a dusty up stairs, but it gives the little ones something to do and a
great place to leave each other messages.

I love the globe idea!! I could fill my house with globes, I have such a strange obsession with them! :P
Do you have to put a coating over chalkboard paint? Can you buy it at any hardware store? :)
I also like the wine glass idea!
All the ideas are cute, but i'd be scared that i'd be covered in chalk all the time :P
I'm definitely trying the globe and the wine glasses if I can find the paint :)
You're so crafty! I love it! :)

More great ideas Alex; I'm definitely doing the pot's for my herbs. I actually have painted a chalkboard in my kitchen & framed it. I love it for notes & messages~ staying in touch with the fam. I really like the dresser too; that would be great if my kids were a little younger.
