2011 Drink Trends: What Every Host Should Know Before Your Next Shindig
When we’re talking Trends, the first thought that usually comes to mind is Fashion. Being fashion-forward is important to many of us, but did you know that alcoholic drinks also respect the vogue?
Before you make a bevvie blunder at your next garden party shindig, we suggest you get up to speed using the new handy dandy Trend Report from the LCBO (Ontario) – it highlights everything you need to know to ‘be in the know’!
To get you started, here are 5 of the drink trends we’re expecting to see in 2011:
Pinot Grigio: Tired of the same old white? Pinot Grigio’s light flavour profile makes it much more versatile to enjoy with food or just on its own. This is the white wine you’d be drinking at a bistro on the Italian Riviera: ‘nuff said?
Wheat Beers: Girlfriends, wheat beer is the farthest thing from Coors Light. If you haven’t discovered the flavourful, exotic taste of an Old World-style beer, you have been missing out. It’s refreshing, smooth, and gets you brownie points with the Mister – trust.
Everyday Bubbly: Whoever decided that champagne and sparkling wine was for special occasions only clearly needs to get out more. You can find many delicious sparkling wines at the same price point as other varietals.
Reposado Tequila: Margaritas and bar shots with salt and lime are not the only ways to experience tequila. Reposado Tequila is made from 100% pure blue agave (read here: good quality), lightly aged, and one of the hottest Must-Try tequilas currently on the market.
Italian Sodas: We’ve seen plenty of 1920s-inspired fashion on the runways, and the new Italian Sodas take this vintage vibe to the next sophisticated level. The vodka-based lemony and blood orange refreshments are lightly carbonated and crystal clear--free of artificial flavours and colours. The cat’s pajamas, Baby!
Intrigued? You can find these tips, recipes and much more in the new Trend Report now available free at your local LCBO and online. Even better, ask one of their in-store associates for more ideas on what’s new and trendy for Spring 2011!
*ChickAdvisor and the LCBO encourage you to please discover and serve alcoholic beverages responsibly. Check with your local authorities for the legal drinking age in your area.

For all the qs about Italian soda, on page 35 of the LCBO trends magazine (I'm looking at the virtual version), they are featuring Bassano Hard Soda, which is lemon flavoured with hints of blood orange. The link is here:
The Italian Soda sounds fantastic! I gave up drinking soda around 5 years ago but this sounds like a yummy alternative with less chemicals. Is there a specific brand of soda? I checked out the links you provided but they do not list any. I'd love some recommendations from you gals!
Italian Soda pretty please :)
Mmm I'll take an Italian soda please!
I like having some fresh ideas like these because otherwise I tend to get stuck in a pattern of always buying the same drinks for entertaining, etc. As yummy as Grey Goose & cranberry juice is, it's high time I branched out methinks!
I had no idea there was such a thing as "drink trends", but I like the idea of knowing what is of the moment. That tequila sounds intriguing.
I've been craving a nice white lately. I'm looking forward to having some Pinot Grigio in the summer on my new patio!
