2011 MMVAs Red Carpet Recap
In case you missed the MMVAs on Sunday, June 19th, here is everything you need to know and maybe a few things you didn't:
Selena Gomez hosted the 2011 Much Music Video Awards and boyfriend Justin Bieber showed up to the riotous screams of teenage girls everywhere especially at Queen and John, where they lined the streets. While the teen power-couple garnered a ton of attention, the MMVAs were mostly about Lady Gaga's appearance—she opened the show with 'The Edge of Glory'. I firmly believe that no award show is complete unless Lady Gaga crawls out of some sort of egg/cocoon—though some may argue that she is becoming the butt of the yoke with her tired entrance (I couldn't resist!), Lady Gaga won the UR FAVE International Video as well as the International Video of the Year. A full list of the night's winners can be found here.
Far East Movement feat. Dev and Snoop Dogg's performance included a number of Marie Antoinette-like vampires as well as half-man/half-pig hybrids, watch the video and the rest of the awards for yourself over here.
Avril Lavigne performed her single "What the Hell" at the MMVAs and I have to say, I feel like she has been keeping a low profile recently so I was glad to see her perform. Other performances included: Fefe Dobson, Simple Plan, City and Colour and Bruno Mars.
Like The Toronto Star reported, the too-cute-to-handle moment of the night came when Justin Bieber accepted his first award from Selena Gomez and playfully introduced himself to his girlfriend: "Selena, nice to meet you, I'm Justin." Followed by: "You're very beautiful, maybe we can go out sometime." Aw, puppy love.
Of course, what we really want to know when it comes to award shows is—who wore what? Here are some style winners from the MMVAs:
Lady Gaga was definitely the best dressed there—loving that turquoise/teal wig she's been sporting lately. What do you think?
From left: Shay Mitchell of Pretty Little Liars, Bruno Mars, Selena Gomez interviews Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev of The Vampire Diaries, and singer Fefe Dobson performs.
And of course, it wouldn't be an award show if there was not at least one outfit that was less than stellar. Danny Fernandes may have a great voice, but he does not have a great stylist. This was simply a poor decision, hopefully better ones will prevail in the future.
Did you watch the MMVAs? What was your favourite moment or fashion choice?

I really like Fefe Dobson ever since she came out years ago. I'm glad she's back in the charts again. She deserves it!
Men (boys?) and pink blazers have always looked so great!! This should become a thing :)
I think it's hilarious that Justin Bieber wore a shirt with Kelly Kapowski on it (considering the show was off the air by the time he was born) and paired it with a pink blazer. Swagger! |
