2013 Beauty Looks To Try Part One: 5 Hair Trends

It's 2013 and there is a ton to look forward to this year, especially when it comes to beauty. Sure, we'll be sad as we bid aideau to the oxblood lip, but we're very soon going to be saying hello to a whole new collection of spring makeup and that's exciting.

In Part One of 2013 Beauty Trends, we're counting down 5 hair trends that we predict will be major players in the upcoming year. Here's your sneak peek at all things gorgeous in hair for 2013:

#1: The Cropped Cut

You may remember that this past year, both Miley and Anne took the plunge and chopped off their long locks. And with the much anticipated "Great Gatsby" to be released in May 2013, we're thinking that the pixie cut is going to be in full force for 2013.

#2 Crimped

For better or worse, designers have been heavily influenced by the 90's of late and it finally seems to have hit us on the head, so to speak! Crimped hair was all over the Spring 2013 runway. Only this time around, we're seeing a modern crimp with slicked pieces and boho influence.

#3 DIY Dyes

We're all about the DIY when it comes to home, food, decor and even skincare. So should it be any different when it comes to our hair? With revolutionary products coming out on the market in 2013, there is even more reason to become a box convert.

1. Garnier Olia uses an oil delivery system for more intense pigmentation and less harsh results.

4. L'Oreal Paris Preference Wild Ombres: Ombre available to you at home! This one isn't out on Canadian markets yet, but check out this sneak peek here and look for it sometime this year.

Dip dying and streaks don't seem to be going anywhere, but not all of us can make commitment. Try chalking with 3. Kevin Murphy Color Bug or semi permanent dyes instead, I'm a fan of 2. Manic Panic.

#4 Au Naturel

Keeping it simple is a return from the overdone, over the top styles. We're embracing waves, curls, slicked back styles and messy updos.

#5 Anti-Aging Haircare

1. & 4. Pantene Expert Collection Age Defy Shampoo and Conditioner (US$8.99, each)

2. Peter Thomas Roth Hair To Die For Hair Treatment (C$58.00)

3. Alterna Caviar Anti Aging Moisture Duo (C$65.00)

Which of these trends are you excited (or not so excited) to try this year?

@LissaG, I've colored my hair with temp and permanent colors, but I've never done any colors like purple. I think I'm a bit to old to be doing something like that now.LOL I have used that sun in stuff that you just spray on wet hair. It's supposed to give you blond high lights. I went a bit to crazy putting it on my hair every time I washed it and all of my hair went blond. After about five months of this my nephew die and I wanted my hair back to normal for his funeral, so I tried to color it back to my natural brown. What a mistake that was! My hair turned green on me and when I called the number on the box to find out what I could do, she told me nothing. Not to touch it because my hair was in shock and could fall out. Thank God it wasn't a bright green and you could only tell when the light hit it the right way. It took me a good six years before I tried doing any type of coloring to my hair again. I also can only use a color that has ash in it or my hair turns red, so I'm pretty limited to what I can do with at home dye's.

I would never do the cropped look. It doesn't even look good on the celebs. Crimped is a maybe, though I don't like how it looks in those pictures. As for natural, I WISH my hair would look good natural. It would save me a lot of time and effort. But for some reason it gets flat and greasy at the roots and then is frizzy everywhere else.

Anti-aging for your hair? Le sigh.

@takoda i'm the same! Glad the 'au natural' is coming back though, we're right in the trend then. Have you tried using any of the at-home colouring stuff? My friend has the Kevin Murphy Colour Bug in purple and I tried it over the weekend and really loved it. I just did a few streaks throughout my hair and it looked really cool, while my friend did the tips of her whole head and I loved that too. Its quick to do and not permanent so it's fun to change it up for a night out.

And I think crimping looks good if you do it right...it's gonna be bigger waves, not tight like the pictures above. Reminds me of the 80s!

I love that the cropped look is getting popular. For so long people always thought you needed long hair to be beautiful, especially in Celebrities. I love the colour bug tool and also ooking forward to seeing Loreal's new product out!

I sport the natural look most of the time, but I'd love to be able to rock the crop cut. I love short hair styles on other people, just not on myself. Also, not a huge fan of crimping!

I just put my name in to win a Garnier Olia hair dye. It looks like it will be pretty good. As for the naturel hair styles, my hair has looked like this for years. Its finally back in style and I'm really starting to get sick of it, I can't win!LOL I can't really do much with my hair because it's straight as a pin, it won't hold a curl and I hate short hair on myself.
