For the avid moviegoer, the Oscars are more than just a glamorous awards ceremony showcasing celebrities in their stupendous threads and show-stealing speeches. It’s an opportunity to be entertained by the nuances of celebrity personalities, become a cultural snob and possibly gamble for bragging rights.

The Bets

Send out Oscar ballots with this year's nominations as your party invitations. Forms are now available on the Oscars website for free download.  Your Oscar pool rules are simple: choose the nominee that you think will win in each category. The guest with the most points at the end of the night wins.

The Threads

Arrange your own ‘red carpet’ pose-off. Encourage guests to dress up for the occasion, as their favorite movie character from the past year or as the celebrity version of themselves.  Photography?  Of course.

(l-r) Best Actor nom Morgan Freeman and Supporting Actor Matt Damon represent for Invictus, but do they have a chance against front runners Jeremy Renner and Jeff Bridges?

The Games

Try Verbal Charades - it's exactly as it sounds. Start with the most popular movie titles, but instead of just miming the words, pick scenes and characters and act them out. Talking is allowed and highly encouraged. Look online for printable scripts.
