5 DIY Junk Food Recipes

When the news hit that Hostess would be going out of business, we all collectively freaked out. And by 'we' I mean, myself and maybe a few other people. I like to believe I was justified in my freak out. Afterall, had Hostess gone under there would be no Twinkies left in the world! No. Twinkies. Left.

Thankfully though, it was announced that the Twinkie would not be going extinct. Cue sigh of relief.

Just in case this scare ever happens again though, I thought it would be essential to round up a collection of recipes for DIY version of some of the best junk food snacks out there. Plus, I found a few recipes for homemade substitutes of snacks that you may not be able to get anymore.

For the future though, in case of a bankruptcy/zombie apocalypse/grocery store strike/unexplained shortage, we've got you covered.

1. Dunkaroos: Tell me I'm not the only one who would eat the frosting with a spoon. If these ever stop being stocked on shelves, use this recipe to create your own with graham crackers.

2. Sno Balls: I'm not sure if these were ever sold in Canada, I can't say that I've ever actually had one but they're pink and they look adorable so I'm on board. Here's the homemade version.

1. Jell-O Pudding Pops: Creamy, chocolatey pops? These are going on my to-do list for summer.

2. Pop Tarts: I will not be happy if the day ever comes that Pop Tarts are not available. It's good to know this recipe exists.

Which of these would you like to try out at home? Do you have a favourite guilty pleasure 'bad for you' snack?

I have never actually had a real pudding pop. My mom always use to make them herself. It really is so easy, there is no reason to even buy the "real" stuff. Also those homemade poptarts look so good, and I'm not even a huge poptart fan.

Jell-o pudding pops look soooo good! I don't think I'd try making the pop tarts at home, but now you've made me crave smore pop tarts!

Looks delicious! I love dunkaroos and poptarts, always remind me of middle school recess. My sweet tooth always goes for candy though, i'm a big sucker for anything sour and chewy!

My guilty pleasure is yogurt-dipped pretzels (though it tastes like white chocolate, so I'm pretty sure the "yogurt" part is a euphemism, but WHATEVER). I also love chocolate-dipped pretzels and those are easy enough to make at home.

I'm not much of a sweet person myself, but my daughter absolutely loves her Dunk-Aroos!
