5 Fashion Trends in Eyeglasses

We’ve been highlighting many of Summer 2010’s hottest sunglasses trends, and now it’s time to take a look at what trends are dominating the realm of prescription eyewear.

Glitz 'n Glam
This is jewelled frames taken to the next level with the flower detail attached at the temples, as seen from Versace ($185).

Down to Earth
Neutral tones like this DKNY tortoise pair ($95) are all the rage. They provide a sleek everyday look without sticking to boring black.

Feisty
Get playful with your frames and go for a sexy animal print like these cheetah print eyeglasses from Dolce & Gabbana ($190).

Retro Chic
These two-toned wayfarers combine librarian sophistication with retro spunk.   We love Chanel’s take ($350).

Spotlight

You are bound to stand out in a room full of people if you have a pair of sleek red eyeglasses on, like these from Dolce & Gabbana ($360). By wearing a classic pair of frames in a bright colour, you automatically add a modern flair.

Which one of these trendy frames will woo you away from contact lenses?

I wanted glasses for the longest time! Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted them because I thought they were beautiful. My mom always told me that "you don't get glasses unless you need them", so I never ever thought of buying them just for looks!

I gave up having my eyes tested a few years ago, but this year I have suffered from horrible headaches. My doctor sent me for a CT scan and we tried all sorts of meds, but nothing seemed to calm the headaches. Finally, she asked how my vision was... said its perfect, but I hadn't had my eyes checked in a while. And what do you know... got my eyes checked and I needed glasses!!! Now I proudly wear my glasses every day - 4 different pairs so that I can co-ordinate :) My favourite ones are brown & teal and are (surprisingly!) from the Hillary Duff line! Love it!

I'm in the market for another pair of glasses. I can't usually wear contacts because I have low tear production, but I actually enjoy the fashion side of eyewear so it's not a problem for me. I am loving all these trends, but particularly the Versace model!

Who among you 20/20-eyed ladies wear frames either as a fashion statement or to look a little more academic? I have a friend who does that!
