5 Patio-Worthy Party Punches

Patio season has officially begun, and whether you have a sprawling backyard terrace or only a 14th-floor juliet balcony, entertain your guests in style with one of these refreshing mixes that incorporate fresh fruit and zesty flavours!

Spiked Cranberry Lemonade

1 46oz (1.36L) can pineapple juice, chilled
1 32oz (950mL) bottle cranberry juice, chilled
1 12oz (350mL) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
3 cups lemon-flavoured rum (eg. Bacardi Limone)
1 2L bottle ginger ale
Garnish: pineapple wedges, maraschino cherries, lemon slices

Combine juices and rum in a large punch bowl.  Add ginger ale right before serving and garnish as desired.

Lemony Spiked Sweet Tea


4 + 3 cups water
6 tea bags (eg. orange pekoe)
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/3 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 cup high-proof golden rum (eg. Bacardi 151)
Garnish: fresh mint sprigs

Bring 4 cups of water to boil, then remove from heat and steep tea bags for 5 minutes.  Remove tea bags and add sugar until dissolved.  Stir in 3 more cups of water, lemon juice and rum.  Chill thoroughly, then serve over ice and garnish as desired.

Rosé Wine Punch


1/4 cantaloupe, peeled
1 small peach, pitted
1 small nectarine, pitted
2 bottles (2x750mL) chilled dry rosé wine
6 Tbsp sugar
1 1/2 cups raspberries

Pour wine into a large pitcher, add sugar and stir.  Slice fruit into bite-sized pieces and add to wine mixture.  Cover and chill for 2 hours before serving.  For a fruitier wine, allow to chill overnight.  Strain wine before serving and add fresh fruits.

Traditional Sangria

2 bottles chilled dry red wine (eg. Rioja)
1 cup brandy
1 cup orange juice
1/4 cup superfine granulated sugar
2 oranges, cut into thin rounds
2 lemons, cut into thin rounds
3 Key limes, cut into thin rounds
2 apples, cored and cut into 1/2-inch chunks
2 cups cold club soda

Combine first 4 ingredients in a large punch pitcher or bowl and stir until sugar dissolves.  Add fruit and chill for at least 1 hour.  Add soda just before serving over ice.

Ginger Margaritas

1 bottle (750mL) tequila
1 cup Cointreau
6 ounces (175mL) limeade concentrate
4 cups ginger ale

Combine first 3 ingredients in a large pitcher.  Add ginger ale just before serving in coarse sugar- or salt-rimmed margarita glasses.
