5 Questions to Ask Before You Ditch Your Job

| Tuesday July 27, 20102 comments
If your job is not going well you may start to question if you are in the right career.  But before you make the big jump, consider these 5 critical questions:

1. Did you dislike your job, your company, or your field? Don’t just assume that your dissatisfaction lies in your field – ask yourself some serious questions to isolate exactly what you like and don’t like.

2. Are the senior managers in positions you would like? Everyone starts at the bottom and slowly works their way up. Look at what the higher ups are doing, and ask yourself if that’s something you would enjoy.

3. If money was no object, what would you do? Thinking without limitations often leads us to our true chosen path.

4. Is your job working with your true nature and strengths? Are you social and creative, or introverted and analytical? Make sure you figure yourself out before considering any changes.

5. If you think it’s safe, have an open conversation with your manager. She may be able to offer more challenging work, or have some great advice. Watch out though, some companies may take your conversation the wrong way, and you could find yourself getting the boot.

Do you have any job-jumping tips or taboos?
