5 Trends in Engagement Ring Styles

A diamond is forever, but the setting styles are ever-changing. We check out the most popular trends currently taking on the Engagement Ring market:

Coloured Gems
Although diamonds do come in a few colours like this canary diamond, don’t be afraid to stray towards a different gem. Everything from pink sapphire to green amethyst is hot right now.

We Like: Carats Diamond Direct, $1130

Eternity Rings
Many engagement rings now include a jacket of diamonds along the entire band, symbolizing everlasting love. It’s also a practical twist, because rings turn while you wear them.

We Like: Verragio, $2000

Architectural Twists
Designers are getting artistic with the band itself, rather than focusing on the stones alone. Multi-piece bands crisscross along the edge and embrace the setting.

We Like: Tiffany, $27700

Vintage & Heirloom
Wearing Grandma’s ring is a special privilege, but if your family doesn’t have a vintage ring to pass down, shop for styles designed to resemble heirlooms.

We Like: Tacori, from $5250

Ethical Jewelry
Many diamond retailers are now making an effort to only stock conflict-free diamonds (gems not used to fund wars or genocide). Diamonds mined in Canada have a maple leaf that can be seen through a jeweler’s magnifier.  You can also purchase recycled jewelry or have an old piece reworked by an artisan to support an eco-friendly agenda.

We Like: Spence Diamonds, $939

Money-saver tip: Pick a designer ring and get it made by a custom jeweler. This way you get the designer look without the designer mark-up.

Just to add that not all Canadian diamonds are marked with a maple leaf. Mine is Canadian and has a Canada goose and you can also have a polar bear.

Being just recently engaged, I loved this article!

I love the top ring. Coloured diamonds are so hot right now. Remember Carrie's black diamond?

I've also noticed a lot of friends getting stacked diamond bands in lieu of a solitaire. I think it looks amazing and modern. Not something you have to worry about snagging on anything.
