5 Ways To Transition Your Wardrobe From Winter to Spring

Posted by Christina | Wednesday February 26, 201410 comments

Is it spring yet? This winter has been so long and drabby, I cannot wait to bring my bright prints and short sleeves back into my closet. Stores are starting to bring in their spring collections, so it's hard not to think about throwing away my chunky knits and going for a bright two piece…. okay maybe I'm dreaming too big, we are still in a polar vortex. But that doesn't mean we Chicks can't start thinking about ways to take our dark winter closets and bring in some springsperation

The next few months are what I like to call the awkward stage in my outfit choices. I never know whether I should be wearing my tank top or if I still need to throw on my over sized chunky knit. Personally I'd much rather start busting out my spring wardrobe and that's what I'm going to do, so don't try to stop me or I'll throw some cropped trousers your way!

Here are five ways to say goodbye to winter and add some sunlight into your transition outfits.

#1. Say goodbye to your beloved leggings and say hello to bright printed cropped trousers

Don't get me wrong I will forever be faithful to my leggings, but ladies, it's time for us to move on. Replace your leggings with a cropped pant, like a tapered colored trouser under your favorite winter tunic or sweater to lighten up your look.

1. Joe Fresh Slim Print Pant (C$39.00)

2. Forever 21 Classic Stiletto Pump (C$35.80)

3. TOPSHOP Formal Stepped Hem Tunic (C$70.00)

#2. Layering 101

Time to pack away that chunky cardigan and parka and add layers to your look like a leather vest or cotton button down over top your dark winter jeans and bright summer tank. It's the perfect way to stay warm and look cool.

1. Old Navy Women's Boyfriend V-Neck Cardis (C$29.94)

2. Gap 1969 Always Skinny Black Jeans (C$79.95)

3. ASOS POP Cph Leather Vest ($151.88)

4. Old Navy Women's Jersey Tamis (C$10.00)

#3. Bring in the colour!

Add some bright patterns and pastels to your winter wardrobe to make that long season feel shorter. Throw on some pumps or a chunky necklace - the more colour the better!

1. Jeffrey Campbell Solitaire Platform Pump Lavender Suede (C$140.00)

2. ALDO Natural Turrito Necklace (C$25.00)

3. Rebecca Minkoff Hudson Moto Mini in Mint (C$265.00)

#4. Booties + cropped trousers = true love

Booties are so essential for any season. Be sure to keep your favorite winter booties when transitioning to spring and pair them with your fave new cropped trousers or khaki pants.

1. Forever 21 Cable Knit Sweater (C$18.99)

2. Zara High Heel Leather Ankle Boot with Fringes (C$99.00)

3. Zara High Heel Ankle Boot  (C$59.00)

4. J. Crew Factory Winnie Pant In Stretch Twill Wild Strawberry (USD $58.50)

5. Cute, not chunky, sweaters

Once again, we really need to say our final goodbyes to those dark knits and hello to some cute sweaters that can keep us warm while still looking fashionable. Fashion brands are dressing up their sweaters with prints and embellishments like beading.

1. Banana Republic Textured Colorblock Zip Cardigan (C$110.00)

2. TOPSHOP Petite Crystal Necklace Jumper (C$84.00)

3. Levi's Mid Rise Skinny Styled, Print (C$36.94)

4. Spring Vananda Flat in Turquoise (C$35.00)

What spring pieces are you excited to bust out? Any other tips for a winter to spring wardrobe transition?

Very cute outfits! A lot of money in the long run. I live on a shoestring so I would buy a little from each Collection so I could switch pieces & have new looks.
Joe fresh slim print pant, great price.
Asks pop cph leather vest. So cute! A little pricey but u could wear it with a lot of items. & old navy women's jersey tamis. Great price, I'd buy several colours.
Aldo natural turrito necklace, gotta have bling! This would go with several outfits.
Zara high heel ankle boots, great price.
With my existing wardrobe I will be set for spring!

I've already started switching my knits and scarves for lighter options, even though the weather is still in the -40's.

While these are nice looks, I'm really not feeling the prices. For example for the first look, that top should not be worth $70, just does not seem justified to me.
For the second look, that sweater (# 1) looks similar to one you can get at wal-mart for about $12.99.

I guess if you have the money to spend, these stores are fine but for someone like me, I will take the ideas but search within my budget.

Ugh, can't wait until I can wear my cropped Uniqlo pants again. Right now any skin that is bare is frozen :(
