5 Wedding Budget Tips
Your wedding day is a cherished - and expensive - event. Here are some tips to consider when planning your Big Day to keep your costs in check:
(1) Determine a budget: Before you set the date, set money aside. Sit down with your partner and figure out what you can afford.
(2) Allocate money: A good place to start is 50% for your reception, food and drink. Allow 10% on photography/videography, 10% floral and decor, 10% on clothing, 6% on Music, 3% on Stationery, 7% on Ceremony, and 4% Miscellaneous. Clearly communicate with vendors so they can work with what you’ve firmly budgeted - they may have valuable cost-trimming suggestions.
“Guests will forgive and/or forget decor, flowers and cake,” says Angelique Sobschak, wedding expert on Slice’s Rich Bride Poor Bride. “But bad food or bad music will leave your guests in a foul mood. So when budgeting put more money on food, drinks and music.”
(3) Be realistic: What elements are truly important to you? How many guests do you need - 50 or 200? Do you need fancy favours or fancy flowers?
(4) Seek professional advice: A wedding planner can provide cost saving ideas and help ensure vendors don’t upsell you. Depending on the complexity of your day, the time and money savings may even cover his or her fee.
(5) Track your spending: Many couples don’t calculate what they spend, then later realize they’re over budget. Keep a small journal with your wedding expenditures close at hand to stay on track.
