6 Common Beauty Mistakes
Alright chicks, it's time for some tough love. I need to tell you, chances are, you're doing it wrong.
I'm taking about your beauty routine. But it's not your fault! A lot of women are misinformed when it comes to their every day beauty routines. Let's see if we can't take your beauty to the next level by changing a few simple habits.
Here are six, often wrongly performed tasks when it comes to getting the best results out of your skin, nail, and hair care routines.
#1: Properly Paint Your Nails

Not everyone is a professional when it comes to painting their nails, but this is a safe guide for full nail coverage and most likely the least amount of nail polish getting on anything other than your nail. Give your polish a better chance of survival by always finishing with a top coat. This protects the nail polish against chipping. (via indulgy.com)
#2: Insert a Bobby Pin

A fact unknown to many, the wavy part of the bobby pin was designed to have a better hold on the hair instead of slipping off, which is why it should be on the bottom when putting it in your hair. With this knowledge you will now hopefully have better luck keeping that bobby pin to style your hair the way you want it. (via honeyandfitz.blogspot.ca)
#3: Drying Your Hair

When it comes to drying your hair, using a blow dryer all the time isn't very healthy for it. A popular trick these days is to braid your hair before going to sleep and unbraid it in morning. This will reveal gorgeous beach waves desired by many. Here is a video for how to french braid your hair. Leaving your hair a bit damp as you braid it allows for a better chance for your hair to dry into the wavy style. #4: Washing Your Hair

Washing your hair is a routine that people don't always follow guidelines for. First of all, your hair doesn't need to be washed everyday. You need to keep some of the original oils in your hair, and colour treated hair fades a lot faster if washed daily. As for the washing steps: Lather the shampoo in your hands first and then massage the shampoo into your roots, no hard scrubbing is needed for the rest of your hair. Rinse with cool to cold water for best results. Apply conditioner to the ends and length of your hair, not as important for the roots, and leave it in for 3-5 minutes like the bottle says. #5: Washing Your Face

When it comes to washing your face, here are some easy steps to follow in order to get clean and fresh looking skin. A lot of people tend to wash their face twice a day. Consider just washing your face once a day to keep some of the moisture in. Use a cleanser to remove makeup and any dirt or excess oil from your face. Follow up with a toner to remove any tricky makeup or dirt and tighten your pores. And lastly, use a moisturizer to make your skin feel smooth. (via redbookmag.com, carolinamerlegirl.blogspot.ca)
#6: Perfume Over Clothes
(image via siol.net)
Most people spritz on some perfume overtop of their clothes before leaving the house, but this is actually harmful for the fabrics of clothing, and in return can make the perfume smell not as desirable. Rubbing perfume into your wrists isn't the best way to apply it either. A better way of wearing perfume is to lightly dab or spray it onto one or two of the "pulse points" of the body (knees, wrists, base of throat, and behind earlobes) before getting dressed. guilty of not knowing how to use a bobby pin!

When I learned manicures, that is not how we were taught.
I've braided my hair semi-dry almost as long as I can remember - it really does work to give a great beachy style. I also have always only washed my face with cleanser 1x per day and clean water the other times. Actually, I really only use cleanser when removing makeup or if my face is dirty. In particular, mornings and after a workout I try to only use clean water to rinse my face off which keeps my skin moisture wonderfully balanced. I do still use moisturizer but much less than I'd otherwise need.
I'm guilty of the perfume one for sure..... but now I know.
I pretty much knew all of these except the nails one...but that doesn't mean i always follow them lol. Great tips! |
