Are Silly Bandz Changing the Dating Scene?

Have you heard of Silly Bandz?  (If not, what rock have you been hiding under?)

The cheap, brightly coloured rubber bands shaped into every form imaginable have been adorning the wrists of elementary school students for over a year now.  It's the ultimate kiddie cool symbol, and trading them between friends has become such a classroom distraction that many principals have banned them from their buildings.

Silly Bandz have been spotted on the wrists of Shakira, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rebecca Romijn, and Mary-Kate Olsen

But unlike the sticker-trading frenzy of yesteryear, Silly Bandz have successfully transitioned from the schoolyard to the wrists of celebs and even the dating scene.

We hear that the gifting of Silly Bandz is the newest way to show your interest.  The octopus he gave you?  The castle she slipped in your pocket?  Let the games (and mayhem) begin...

Are you wearing Silly Bandz?  Have you used them to flirt?

These are absolutely silly. And if a guy were to have ever 'gifted' me with one as a sign of interest, you can bet I would never have taken him seriously.

My 14 year old son has all kinds of these things floating around his room. I'm going to have to take a closer look at them and make sure they're not to x rated. Thanks for the heads up mamaluv!!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I just learned that there are now "Sexy Bandz" (images of which I will not post here!) and they are exactly what you think they are.

Google them if you dare!

To be honest, I think these are literally "silly". I mean, exchanging them to show you're interested in another person shouldn't happen unless you're in elementary school. I'm hoping Sarah Jessica Parker probably wears it because she has kids.

If you are visiting in the States, they are everywhere - drugstores, toystores, you name it. Also plenty of online options, if you're really keen. They come in glow-in-the-dark and every shape from sports to fairy tales to pop culture, etc etc etc.
