Arts and Crafts: 3 Easy (and Kid-Friendly) Mother's Day DIY Gift Ideas

Attention chicks: Mother's Day is May 13th. That's this coming Sunday! Are you prepared? No? Running a little behind on the shopping? Hey, it's cool because I have three super easy, super inexpensive and super cute crafty ideas that also happen to be kid-friendly!

Each of these crafts uses only a few materials, all of which can be found in a quick trip to the dollar store. All take under 30 minutes as well. It isn't necessary to spend a fortune this Mother's Day, a sweet homemade gift made with love is all you need!

Craft 1: Paper Calla Lilies- perfect as a gift from a small one on their own or as an attachment for pretty presentation!

What you need:

Paper (lightweight, printed or coloured paper works best) cut out in leaf shape, long, thin rectangle (for the centre) and a rounded diamond shape
Scissors
Stapler
Hole Puncher
Ribbon, string or twine

Final Product

I decided to attach these all together with a ribbon and make a bouquet for an accent to a sweet little gift.

Craft 2: Framed Heart- a quickie in a pinch, also good for Valentine's Day! I love this craft because you can repurpose old items that you might lying around or, if you need to easily purchase these at a thrift or dollar store.

What you need:

Frame
Newspaper or old paperback novel
White paper
Scissors
Stapler
Tape
Pen

Prep: Take apart a frame, set aside. For this craft, we're not going to be using the glass portion of the frame.

Final Product

Measure out a piece of paper, making sure that it fits in the frame. Attach the heart and write a cute message as a token of love!

Craft 3: Pop-Up Card- a great, extra special version of an ordinary card! The pop-up card is deceptively easy. This is only a basic one but using the same method you can get more intricate and complex.

What you need:

Paper (cardstock works best)
Scissors
Markers
Glue or tape

Tip: In step 9, I used an accordion folded slip of paper to create a pop out, 3D effect!

Final Product

A fun way to wish mom a happy Mother's Day!

What will you be gifting mom this holiday?

As a mother I know the homemade gifts my son made for me were better then anything else I could have ever gotten I cherish them, and still have a poem he wrote for me on mothers day in his shaky little first time hand printing and I still have it framed.

These are really adorable Alex!
