Backstage Beauty: Line Knitwear Fall 2011
The beyond gorgeous knitwear of Line defies our idea of woolens every season. For their Fall 2011 presentation models looked like heroines you'd see at a train station in an Evelyn Waugh adaptation, rather than winter refugees in a mountain hideaway scene. The makeup furthered that 1930s, English countryside feeling.
Backstage and Runway
Hair was curled from mid-shaft with a one and a half inch curling iron, leaving the ends free so hair wouldn't look overdone. First hair was divided into five or six thick sections and each was shot with hairspray before getting wrapped around the iron. Hair was roughed up with a gel-creme so as not to appear too tidy, as well.
For the face, eyebrows were enhanced with a bit of shadow, and foundation was light. A simple pink blush was applied to the apples, followed by clear gloss dabbed on the top of cheeks and at the centre of the forehead to create a just in from out-of-doors appearance. Bronze and a pearlescent medium brown shadows were applied so they were more intense at the outer edge of the eye, and mascara was only at the tips so as not too heavy. The deep burgundy of the lip was created by first lining with a pencil, then layering over a classic red and browning it down with a coffee-coloured shade, and all blended together with a brush on the lip.
The retro-feeling we got from the collection was enhanced by the oval nails in a V-shaped moon by Leeanne Colley of Tips Nail Bar. The outer portion looked black but was actually OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark, still a go to shade some five years on, and the inner "V" was done in Bubble Bath (a soft pink perfect for brides). Nails were prepped ahead of time and pressed on to models, creating a feeling that was more a handful of luxe than A Handful of Dust.
