Backstage Beauty: Toronto F/W 2010 Hair & Makeup Trends
ChickAdvisor went backstage at Toronto's LG Fashion Week to get the beauty scoop on the hottest fall hair and makeup trends from L'Oreal experts, Eric Del Monaco and Eddie Maleterre. The season's inspiration? The big smoke.
"We took our inspiration from the city", explains Maleterre. "When you walk in the city you see gray from the concrete… then sometimes you see one tree with leaves that is green, or the red brick of a building. Then you see a reflection in the window that is this kind of violet. And the white comes from lights in the city. This is really beautiful and it was our inspiration."
The New Smokey Eyes
Eddie filled the lids with a pretty violet colour and skipped liner and mascara in favour of L'Oreal's lash serum for barely there lashes at the Pat McDonagh show.
The New Updo
Del Monaco shared his urban inspired hairstyles with us as he worked on a model for the Pat McDonagh show. "It's all about urban beauty, structure, architecture, so just like when you build a house you have to have a foundation, this is what we're doing with the hair too. With some looks we built a big ball shape and then piled the hair on top in all sorts of different waves and curls. It's really easy to do at home because it doesn't have to be refined. It's ok if it isn't as polished (as past seasons)."
Trends Take Away
The lips are this season's dominant feature.
Maleterre recommends pairing a soft smokey eye with bright bold lips. "Lips will be bright. I like the idea of bright lips. Like a plum, brick or a bright orange or bright red. But no eyeliner or mascara. It's a kind of an angelic, mysterious, modern look."
For hair, Del Monaco suggests, "A lot of big shapes, a lot of updos that are different from the last couple of years where pony tails were low and styled, this time everything is going back up, (points to the crown of his head) but with hugh shapes and textures. So a classic style but done in a more updated version."
So what's out? Long, straight flat ironed hair. What do you think of these new trends?
