BackStage Beauty with Eddie Maleterre

ChickAdvisor had a chance to chat with world-renowned make-up artist Eddie Maleterre backstage at Toronto Fashionweek.

Maleterre’s passion for enhancing the natural beauty of a woman is apparent – he works under pressure, smiling and laughing the whole time.

Maleterre let us watch over his shoulder as he transformed one of designer Joeffer Caoc’s runway models. As he worked, he passed on his expert tips in creating this season’s hottest look – the Smoky Eye.

“All the emphasis is on the eyes,” said Maleterre. The eyelids are smoky, eyebrows filled in, and the face remains neutral and matte.

To create this look at home, start with the right tools. Grab a medium-sized, soft bristled eye shadow brush, charcoal grey shadow, a Kleenex for erasing any mistakes, eyebrow shadow, and concealer.

Start by loading up your brush with dark eye shadow, and tap off the excess powder. Apply the shadow to the lids, blending into the crease. Follow up by filling in eyebrows with a powder a shade darker than your natural brow colour.

When the eyes are finished, wipe away excess powder from the face – dark shadow will fall onto the cheekbones, so make sure you apply your eye shadow first.

Complete the look by brushing concealer under the eyes with a clean soft-bristled brush, and apply pressed powder to the rest of the face. Lips are beige and matte.

One last thing to finish the look off – Eddie’s pick for the must-have product this season, L’Oréal’s latest collagen mascara, with its huge lash-plumping brush.
