Beat the Heat: The Best Beauty for Battling Humidity

So, it's hot out. Obscenely. And I'll be honest, I'm having a hard time adjusting. Fun fact about me: I hate being hot. I dislike sweating immensely. I would not do well south of the equator.

What I loathe however, is when my makeup literally starts to melt off my face. Makeup, sun, heat and sweat don't really do well together, do they? It kind of just accumulates into a puddle on the floor. Not so pretty. And I haven't even touched what the humidity does to my hair! Frizz city, my friends

This is why you need humidity busters when it comes to your beauty routine for the summer. Products that fight the melting effect and help to keep you looking your best throughout the day.

1. Philosophy Total Matteness Oil-Free Mattifying Pore Eraser (C$40.00): Normally, I prefer a dewy complexion to a completely matte one but as I "glisten" in summer, I don't want to look wet. Instead, I opt for mattifying products.

2. Tarte Matte Waterproof Bronzer (C$38.00): I like to say that I glisten, I don't sweat. Truth: I sweat, like a lot. More than a lady like amount. To combat the sweating, I reach for waterproof makeup which is going to endure longer than non waterproof makeup. If you want to hit the beach and you'd still like a little primping, waterproof is also the way to go.

3. Urban Decay Chill Makeup Setting Spray (C$35.00): Setting your makeup so it doesn't settle into fine lines or easily melt away is essential. This setting spray actually has a cooling effect, perfect for our humid summer.

4. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (C$24.00)

5. Ouidad Ultimate Frizz Fighting Trio (C$55.00)

1. Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Humidity Hair Spray (C$20.50)

2. Benefit BADgal waterproof mascara (C$24.00)

3. John Frieda Frizz-Ease 3 Day Straight Styling Spray (C$15.99)

4. L'Oreal Fresh Dust Dry Shampoo Texture Expert (US$21.00)

5. Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer (C$38.00): To prevent creasing that comes along with oiliness and sweating, always prime.

6, Juice Beauty SPF 30 Tinted Mineral Moisturizer (C$30.00)

While initially I baulked at the idea of spending money on an aerosol can of water, I've since become a total convert. These feel a-mah-zing. If you would rather DIY something similar, why not try this toner recipe in a squirt bottle?

1. Avene Thermal Spring Water (US$16.00)

2. Evian Mineral Water Spray (C$11.00)

3. La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water (C$10.00)

4. The Body Shop Vitamin C Energizing Face Spritz (C$18.00)

5. Vichy Thermal Spa Water (US$9.70)

What tips, tricks or products do you use during the summer to keep your cool?

I'm with you Alex; I melt in the heat. I love the aerosols spritzers... even though I avoid aerosols for just about everything else. And I'm addicted to keeping a toner and an aloe vera gel in the fridge for after sun or showers. And I never, ever forget my spf 30 lip balm!

Make your own cooling face spritz spray and leave it in the fridge the cool spray feels so good...I just use distilled water and a few drops of essential oil(lavender, lemon, tea tree oil, peppermint etc)So much cheaper then those sprays in the store.

Nice thanks, I'll be needing just about all of these tips in the heat we've been having lately.

That Loreal dry shampoo looks very useful! I love the way my hair looks after a beach day, but always feel the need to wash it so it doesn't get deathly greasy at night.
