Beauty Boyfriends: Beauty Products to Fall in Love With All Over Again
Being a beauty and product junkie, I always have a few bottles going on at once. I will often start on one product and claim that 'I love this product and this is absolutely my favourite product ever!' only to change my mind two weeks later when I fall in love with something else. Maybe they just offer me something new, maybe their (ahem) package is a little hotter, maybe I just get bored. I guess I'm fickle like that.
The other day, I was watching YouTube beauty vloggers at work,as I do, for um, research (don't question) and one of my current faves said something that struck me. She thought we should all be thankful that old beauty products that we had once discarded weren't like old boyfriends we had dumped since we could just go back to them and be just as in love or more so, with them than we had once been. Amen, sister. I quickly get bored and move on to new beauty products, but every once in a while I crawl back to ol' faithful and cozy up again, and there are no hard feelings that I ever left!
In the spirit of old beauty BFs, here are 8 that I have recently rediscovered:
1. Marc Jacobs Beauty Remedy Concealer Pen (C$47.00): Like your first super hot BF, when I first received this pen, I was a little caught up in the hype of MJ and was all in tizzy. Then I used it and was disappointed in it's concealer qualities. Since then, I tried this instead as a highlighting pen above my cheeks and it works wonderfully. No creasing, perfect colour. It's still pricey but similar to YSL Touce Eclat.
2. OPI Classics Collection Nail Lacquer, Suzi Says Feng Shui (US$8.00): After a long hiatus in painting nails, I finally decided to break my bare nail streak with this dusty blue. I love this shade for that in between fall and spring time. It's not too deep and its a pretty alternative to the mints and pastels.
3. Benefit Cosmetics Hello Flawless Oxygen WOW Brightening Makeup (C$44.00): I got this foundation about a year ago and used it a few times before something even newer and shinier caught my eye. This summer I started using it again and I'm kind of hooked. I just finished the bottle and I think I'm going to have to get another one. It's the perfect colour for me and even though it's light, it gives good coverage and has a pretty finish.
4. Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser Lotion (US$23.00): I would actually be embarrassed to show you my bathroom cabinet because there is cleanser upon cleanser in there and most have them have only been used once. Hello, my name is Alexandra and I am a cleans-oholic. This is one of those forgotten cleansers. Since I've switched up my cleansing routine, I've been using this to remove my makeup before I really get in there with a good scrub. It's quite gentle and I can even use it on my eyes.
5. Physicians Formula Eye Definer Automatic Eye Pencil (C$7.69): Since I've started trying out smoky eyes, I needed a good, long lasting and highly pigmented liner. I've had this in my beauty bag for a while but didn't really give it any attention. I decided to test this out because, in all honestly, I had lost my sharpener and all my other liners were dull, but I really like it! I found it had a good, dark black shade, it was creamy and smooth and smudged just perfect.
6. Lush Grease Lightning (C$13.95): I used to use this baby every single day for about two months and then I just stopped for no reason. I'm back on the wagon and enjoying every minute of it. I forgot how well it absorbed oil and how nice and light it is underneath makeup.
Burgundy Shadow: Because I've been super lazy lately, I haven't really been wearing any eye makeup. Just a swipe of mascara for the most part. The other day I was going out and decided to go for a smoky eye just for fun and I opted for a deep, burgundy with just the slightest metallic hint. Part of me just loves the aspect of full out dressing up with a smoky eye. I'm also in love with the burgundy jewel tone for fall and winter. It was a huge trend in fashion and even for lips last season, so I'm digging an oxblood smoky eye this year.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Roach (C$22.00)
Lorac Pro Palette (C$55.00)
Tinted Lip Balm: I was strictly a lipstick gal until a certain "friend" of mine lost my favourite lip stain. I'm not speaking to her anymore (I kid!). Since I didn't have my lipstick on hand, I started trying out some tinted balms instead and was pleasantly surprised. I find in the heat, lipstick bleeds and dries my lips out but a tinted balm just gives a touch of colour and helps hydrate my lips.
L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Balm (C$10.09)
CoverGirl Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balm (C$5.99)
Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm (C$7.99)
Do you have any beauty products that you loved, left and then crawled back to?

OPI Nail Laquer, love it!
Big fan of tinted lip balms, they're a great way to add a bit of formality to your makeup without going overboard, and I also find them to be less worrisome...i'm never worried if I have lipstick on my teeth or smudged on my cheek!
I also love the tinted Burt Bee Balms :)
