Beauty, Fashion and Essentials for Sick Days

Whenever the seasons change, I get sick. It's a major bummer. especially because during the rest of the year I'm pretty healthy. But every year without fail, whether it's going into winter or summer, I get sick. Because the weather has been getting chillier lately, of course, I caught the flu bug. During my time snuggled up in bed, I got to thinking of all of my favourite must-haves for my sick days.

In my beauty and fashion choices, I find that I need a perfect mix of comfy, cozy and put together for these days. I like for it to be as easy as possible but at the same time, I like to look presentable. I find that it just makes me feel better and a bit less sick. When I look better on the outside, I feel better on the inside.

Clothing

When it comes to clothing, I like to go for loose fitting tops and bottoms but in a cute pattern or a bright colour. Leggings are always a favourite, paired with a tank and an open cardigan or warm robe. Don't forget to put on a pair of fluffy slippers or some nice thick socks.

1. Forever 21 Trapeze Raglan Top (C$15.80)

2. Victoria's Secret Dreamer Flannel Robe (US$59.50)

3. Garage Fleece Jogging Pant (C$29.90)

4. River Island Russian Doll PJ Bottom (C$26.84)

5. Jacob Hooded Jersey Draped Cardigan (C$69.00)

6. H&M Pyjamas (C$29.95)

Beauty

For beauty, I like to give my skin a chance to breathe, so I concentrate on treating it. My skin tends to get very dry when I am sick and because it is so dry, it overproduces oil making me breakout (fun!). I like to first make sure my skin is clean and for this I use a scrub or cleanser. I like the Garnier 3 in 1 Cleanser because it can also be used as a mask. Then I make sure to moisturise. If I need to, I will also use a moisturising mask.

I don't really wear any makeup on my day off but if I want to feel a bit more polished, I will use a light BB cream or tinted moisturiser. I also like to have a concealer on hand for any redness or under eye circles.

Essentials

Once you're all ready to relax, make sure to have some excellent reading material and distraction nearby. I highly suggest using this time to catch up on celebrity gossip and to veg out with some rom coms. A good soup is always the best medicine. I love a creamy soup when I am sick. If you can con someone into making it for you, I recommend the recipe below for carrot cumin soup, but even store bought is delicious!

Sick days must haves: def. some cozy pjs, chicken noodle/or rice soup, tea with honey, a nice hot bubble bath, halls with vitamic c, Nutrilite Vitamin C, orange juice, air humidifier, and if I have a sore throat.... ice cream shake. It's weird, but it always actually numbs my throat so it doesnt hurt anymore. ...and of course, re-runs of Supernatural or Frasier. Watching two hot guys hunt demons makes me feel like my problems are much smaller then I originally thought.

If I have to go out while I am sick, my go to outfit is a blanket cardigan and a skirt. Mainly because I refuse to wear sweatpants in public and skirts are really easy to throw on and make an outfit look cute with zero effort. My makeup is more haphazard--generally just powder foundation, chapstick, and eyeliner. At home though, I generally wear my most comfy pjs and a hoodie all day. That carrot-cumin soup looks so good. And my go-to sick movies are cartoons. That is definitely when I break out my old Disney films or even south park. And I even watch something spongebob or scooby-doo on the TV pretty much all day in between naps.
