Bridal Fashion Week 2010
Although there is no shortage of dreamy, strapless, full-skirted wedding gowns gliding down the runway, many of this season’s looks for bridal fashion offered brides-to-be something other than the classic white tulle and chiffon gowns.
The first trend in bridal wear this season is the coloured wedding gown. Designers Stella McCartney, Monique Lhuillier, Valentino, and Oscar de la Renta shelved the ivory silk, and opted for blush, champagne, and gold. This season look for gowns in dove grey, metallic shades, and pewter.
The second trend of note this season is embellished gowns. Designer Toni Maticevski sent out models in gowns with layers, pleats, and glistening appliqués. Jason Wu stand out piece in his Fall 2010 line was a strapless gown embellished with a gold plume-print.
If you are looking for a wedding dress with a hint of drama, look for this season’s architecturally designed gowns. Inspired by the moon, Armani Privé’s Spring 2010 couture collection showed shimmering gowns with skirts and ruffles that defied gravity.
Finally, the gowns at Marchesa, Luisa Beccaria, Koi Suwannagate featured classic silhouetting with belted dresses and cinched waists. To exaggerate this silhouette, take a cue from Scarlett O’Hara and look for a gown with a belted waist and full skirt.
