Choose the Perfect Song for Your First Dance

As a wedding planner, one of the decisions many of my clients struggle with is selecting a song for their First Dance at the wedding reception. What should be a romantic moment can turn nerve wracking with 150 pairs of eyes watching the new couple sashay across the dance floor.
I try to remind couples that the First Dance is really a perfect way for you and your new hubby to spend a few moments alone together. Away from the crowd and last-minute decisions, the best remedy is to tune everything out and just enjoy each other's company, swaying to the melody of the perfect song.
Choosing the song should be an easy process. You want a song that has some danceability to it (hint: save Metallica's Greatest Hits for another day) and ideally some sentimental value: the song playing on the radio when you had your first kiss, or perhaps something from your College days that brings back memories for both of you.
One of my favourite wedding memories is of a bride and groom who totally hammed it up for their first dance and played "Stayin' Alive" while channelling their inner John Travolta. The idea is to not be afraid to think outside the first dance box and have some fun with it!
For those that need some inspiration, I personally recommend these titles:
~ Book of Love, by Peter Gabriel (Shall We Dance soundtrack)
~ Marry Me, by Amanda Marshall
~ Thank You For Loving Me, by Bon Jovi
~ Come Away With Me, by Norah Jones
~ By My Side, by Ben Harper
