Colour Sensational Kisses Michelle Villett
Sponsored Feature
This week's Style Collective kiss is from Michelle Villett, founder of BeautyEditor.ca!
After five years in magazines as a beauty writer and editor, Michelle created BeautyEditor.ca as a way of sharing all the information in her head about eye shadows, antioxidants, and everything in between.
ChickAdvisor:
Why did you start your blog and when?
Michelle:
Beauty editors live in this bizarre but wonderful world where free eyeliners and moisturizers arrive daily and you never need to pay for a haircut. I wanted to give readers an inside peek at what it's like, as well as share all the random bits of information I've collected over the years about the best way to wear your eyebrows (full but groomed) and whether or not matte lipstick is making a comeback (it isn't). BeautyEditor.ca went live in spring 2009.
ChickAdvisor:
Who is your beauty icon and why?
Michelle:
I'm in awe of Laetitia Casta. I interviewed her once and love her breed of imperfect beauty. Her teeth are a little messed up and she's curvier than the average model... but it all works. Plus, she's got that sexy French thing going on. I don't love her current hair colour, though—she looks best as a brunette.
ChickAdvisor:
What is your ideal shade of Maybelline New York Color Sensational lipstick?
Michelle:
Pink Sand - it looks like a pale pink gloss, but is more moisturizing and longer-lasting.
ChickAdvisor:
It's so soft and pretty! What drew you to that colour?
Michelle:
This is a go-anywhere shade that will be the perfect counterpart to the smoky eye I'll be rocking at all the holiday parties coming up.
ChickAdvisor:
What is the most glamorous or exciting part of your job?
Michelle:
I won't lie—I'm pretty spoiled! As a beauty editor, I've been on some amazing trips (Paris, New York, L.A., Miami) and interviewed celebs like the Beckhams and Christina Aguilera. The aforementioned freebies never get old either. I don't think I've purchased mascara since 2004!
ChickAdvisor:
What is the least?
Michelle:
Lest I sound like an obnoxious brat for mentioning the perks, let me emphasize that they come part and parcel with constant deadlines, a lack of job security and very low salaries. It's not for everyone. And in all seriousness, the real reason I do what I do is because I love writing, researching and editing, talking with interesting people and finding out about trends before they happen.
ChickAdvisor:
In our office, we have a room called the "Swag Lounge" that is crammed with beauty products! What does your beauty stash look like?
Michelle:
Sadly that's only a fraction of it - just the stuff I'm writing about right now. Since I don't have room to store it all, my mom has graciously allowed my old bedroom to be converted into a makeshift beauty closet!
