DIY Beauty: Lavender Hand Salve
Lately, I've been obsessed with all things lavender. Have you noticed? It's just such a soothing, relaxing scent and it brings me to my happy place. I cannot get enough of it. With fall right around the corner, my hands have been getting drier and this is seriously putting me in an unhappy place.
To solve both these issues, I have found an excellent DIY for a lavender scented hand salve. Extra moisturizing and hydrating, this thick salve is great for chapped hands or eczema and wonderful for those with a green thumb!
Want to learn how to make this delightful lavender cream?
Here's what you'll need:
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup dried lavender
1/4 cup dried chamomile
2 Tbsp beeswax (grated)
4-5 drops lavender essential oil
3-4 drops of any combination of chosen oils (try eucalyptus)
Start by placing your coconut (or olive) oil in a saucepan on low-med heat. Add lavender and chamomile. Stir to mix until warm. Lower heat and let it sit to infuse for 20 minutes.
Over a glass measuring cup, secure a cheesecloth with rubberbands. Pour your flower and oil mixture over top of this. Once you have collected all the flowers, pick up in cheesecloth and squeeze out.
Secure cheesecloth over glass measuring cup with rubberbands.
Pour oil and flowers onto cheesecloth. Let oil drain into cup. Once the flowers are done dripping and have cooled enough to handle, squeeze excess oil from flowers into cup. You can toss out your old flowers and cheesecloth.
In a saucepan, fill with water to equal or exceed oil level in cup. Place on stove over medium heat with glass cup inside. Add beeswax to oil in measuring cup. Stir until wax is completely melted. Stir in essential oils and turn off heat.
Pour into small, airtight containers for storage. Let cool before putting on lid.
