DIY Drinks: Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake Recipe
Before we get into this recipe I need to tell you, I am super, duper excited about this one. And I only use the term "super duper" when I am seriously pumped up about something so you know this one is going to be good.
I came across the idea for a marshmallow milkshake over here and I immediately dropped everything I was doing and ran out to the grocery store to buy all the necessities. I adapted the original recipe to add an extra kick to it. I really wanted to capture that 'fresh off the campfire' roasted taste and I think I did a pretty darn good job, if I do say so myself!
This recipe has become a favourite of mine and I am definitely going to make more. I should warn you that it's a pretty intense flavour. It bursts with sweetness so less is more when it comes to this milkshake. Also, while I (being the way I am) gave this a more grown up taste, it's not necessary and it would taste excellent without.
Here's what I used:
7 Marshmallows (more or less depending on your tastes)
Marshmallow Fluff (about 1/2 cup)
Milk (about 2 tbsp)
Vanilla Yogurt
Whipped Cream
Optional: Marshmallow Vodka, Vanilla Ice Cream, Vanilla Extract
Makes about one milkshake
Step 1: Toast Marshmallows
Using your broiler, toast your marshmallows to your liking. I found that turning them over onto their side produced the best, more even and golden colour. Underneath the broiler, things tend to escalate quickly so be sure to keep checking on them. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.
Step 2: Yogurt and Marshmallow Fluff
In a blender, pour in one container of vanilla yogurt and add to that about 1/2 of marshmallow fluff. For extra flavour, add 1/8 tsp of vanilla. You can also try adding vanilla ice cream, either instead of or with the fluff and yogurt.
Step 3: Milk and Marshmallows
Add milk and about half the marshmallows to the mixture. Blend on a high speed until it's well mixed. Add the rest of the marshmallows and blend again for a few seconds. If you don't want to add any alcohol, stop here. Just be sure to check the milkshake to see if there are any lumps. Fluff is hard to break up so you may need to mix on a very high speed for a little while longer.
Step 4: Shots!
This is my favourite part. This milkshake is pretty sweet so I cut the sweetness with 1/2 a shot of this fluffed marshmallow vodka I found at my local LCBO. I didn't try it out but I have a pretty good feeling that vanilla vodka or even an Irish cream would also be delightful in this! After adding, mix for a few seconds and pour into your cup.
Once your milkshake is poured into a glass, top with whipped cream and garnish with a marshmallow!
Doesn't this look a-mah-zing? Let me tell you, it also tastes a-mah-zing too! I love how homey and summery this drink is. I can totally picture myself sipping one by the campfire!
