DIY Holiday Decor Ideas

Welcome to the homemade holiday season! That's what I'm calling the season this year because (and though this may be a challenge), I'm trying to undertake as many DIY holiday projects as possible.

With all the lovely Pinterest inspiration, it's hard not to day dream constantly about the fabulous projects you could try! Not only are they so much fun, but I love the idea of creating a homey, warm feeling with unique projects that are specific to my taste.

Wreaths

Twig and Floral Wreath: Use a pre-made twig wreath, spray paint and embellish for a simple but unique style.

Straw Wreath: Striped straws, cut in different lengths and placed together in a circle make this festive wreath.

Felt Wreath: Make little rosettes from felt material and attach together to make this cute craft.

Coffee Filter Wreath: Dye filters any colour, or even used ones (as pictured) to create a wreath.

Ornament Wreath: A pretty picture frame and vintage ornaments makes for a retro inspired but fresh take on a wreath.

Centrepieces

When it comes to centrepieces, go for simple elegance. A few materials from the dollar store, like ribbon, spray paint or inexpensive mason jars mixed with natural elements like pine cones and twigs can create an understated but chic look.

Banners and Garland

I'm loving the fun, quirky tassel banners and garlands that I've been seeing. A variety of colours and they can be used for pretty much any occasion. Use textured fabrics, papers or objects for an unconventional holiday theme.

Little additions to the table or the room make all the difference! For instance, start the holiday spirit outside with a stencilled, welcome mat. And let your guests smell the holidays with some homemade, natural scents.

How will you be decorating for the holidays?
