DIY Holiday Drink: Whisky Cocktails
I know it's not exactly lady like, but I'm a big fan of whisky. Sure, it's kind of an 'old grandpa' drink, but I like to think I look classically sophisticated drinking it. In any case, though you may not know it, whisky actually makes a mean cocktail and there's no reason to shy away from it!
We were recently introduced to these two cocktails made with a vanilla spiced whisky (Vanilla - Yum!). I like to think of it as old school meets fresh new twist. I also thought that they would make excellent tummy warming drinks for the cold season up ahead.
Vanilla Iced Tea: With vanilla and tea it's slightly girly but the whisky makes it a hearty drink. Also a very simple drink to make. Keep this one in mind for any backyard BBQs too.
1 oz Wiser’s Spiced Canadian Whisky
4 oz chilled orange pekoe tea
1 tsp sugar
Build in a highball filled with ice and garnish with a lemon slice.
Hot Toddy: This hot drink is especially good for the inevitable flu season.
1 ½ oz Wiser’s Spiced Canadian Whisky
1 tsp sugar
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 lemon wheel
Top with hot water
Add all ingredients into a specialty coffee mug.
Are you a whisky drinker? Have you tried either of these cocktails before?

I always drink Hot Toddy's around the holidays! It's a favourite in our family.
I've have a bad experience with Whisky once before...maybe I could give it another chance... :)
not a whiskey drinker | |
Vanilla Iced Tea sounds good!
I like whiskey in my food or a shot glass.... have not tried in a cocktail before... wait, not true... had a rusty nail once and think it put hair on my chest.
Yikes, I'm not big on whisky, and these drinks sound like you'd only be able to taste the whisky. I'll stick with rum or vodka.
Oh so interesting, I like the sound of cocktail no.1. Kickin' the tea up a notch :)
I always hated whisky but I'm developing a new appreciation for it lately! Since it's not a favourite of mine, one drink is plenty (unlike vodka based drinks which are my fave and might occasionally be tempted to have several).
I use to be a whisky drinker, but not so much any more. My husband and I were just talking about the new Wiser's Spiced Whisky wondering what it was like. Wiser's special was/is one of our favorites. |
