Dos and Don'ts in the Laundry Room

Recently we chatted with insiders at LG and came up with a list of rules to live by in the laundry room:

1. Cold water really is better for your clothes - it will make them last longer!   Know that biological stains like grass will come out with a lower water temperature, but those drastic oil stains still need warm water to dissolve.  Try a detergent that is formulated for cold water like Sunlight Green Clean Laundry Detergent.
2. Skip the fabric softener.  You don't need it and it actually shortens the lifespan of your clothes.

3.  Worried the colour from your new dark jeans or red sweater will run in the wash?  Just place a damp piece of cotton on the hem of the garment and if after 10 minutes the colour hasn't run into the cotton, you are free to throw it in the wash.

4.  After washing, keep your fine garments in garment bags to keep them safe from dust and mildew - it's not just a myth!

5.  Steam is your friendSteaming your clothes will refresh them and banish wrinkles and odors.

Ideally, you are looking for a washer/dryer with a built in steamer because steaming loosens the fabric allowing impurities to come out easier.

We suggest the LG Galaxy SteamWasher and SteamDryer.  These babies use steam to limit the amount of agitation needed, which will preserve the lifespan of your clothes.  They also have a sensor that calculates the time of the load based on weight to minimize water usage.  Bonus: they run almost silently.

Which washer and dryer do you use?  Do you have any more tips to add to our list?
