Double Up on Rewards Points? We Take ChoicePlus for a Test Drive

The last two years have been a blur.  Between having a baby, buying a 120-year-old house, and figuring out how to balance it all with a job I love, let's just say I'm personally keeping all the coffee houses in Toronto in the black.

Recently we told you about the newly released ChoicePlus Card from American Express.  It allows you to choose five retailers from a list of over 100 at which you can earn double the points (you also collect points everywhere else you shop).  With all of the responsibilities I'm juggling in my personal life, it wasn't hard for me to quickly pinpoint the five faves I'd choose to rack up those rewards.

In no particular order:

Whole Foods: I want to feed my baby the best quality foods possible, so Whole Foods was an obvious choice.

Home Depot: Trust me; in a 120-year-old house there is always something that needs fixing.  Truth be told, backyard DIY projects are getting to be a little hobby of mine anyway.

Petro Canada: I'm constantly on the go so I know how fast my gas purchases will add up.  I'd be kind of crazy not to have a gas station on my list of choices, wouldn't I?

Porter Air: We travel quite a bit for business, but Alex and I try to make time for occasional one-on-one getaways too.

LCBO: We also love entertaining!  When friends and family stop in, it's always good to have a nice Cabernet on standby.

The ChoicePlus Card also includes all of the American Express perks like Front Of The Line access and Purchase Protection, plus you get a hefty points bonus of 7,500 after your initial purchase.  Now that I think about it, it was a pretty easy choice to make.

Speaking of choices, we recently stopped by Eaton Centre here in Toronto to ask shoppers what they'd double.  Will their answers surprise you?  What would you double?

Nice Idea if I ever do get a credit card, right now I am just sticking with Debit though.

I don't use any credit cards, but this one sounds pretty interesting! Double points are awesome.

I definitely don't need another credit card. In fact I just cancelled 2 of mine, so that I am just down to one for online shopping and emergencies.
