Fall 2008 Top 10 Trends

I love the fall. Now, I don’t actually like the cooler weather and the thought that snow is approaching makes me feel a little ill, probably due to the lack of sunlight taking its effect already.
So why is fall so fantastic? Oh the clothing. Fall clothing is what I should wear twelve months a year. And for a girl who is drawn to black and gray clothing like a moth to a flame, this season does not disappoint. This fall, think menswear with feminine touches and reinvented classic pieces. Many of the items on this list may already be in your closet, so start digging. The colours of fall are black, gray, and saturated jewel tones.
There were so many great pieces to choose from this fall that I had to do some serious editing to compile this list. Here are my top ten items for fall that I believe not only exude this season’s obsession with classic dressing, they will also transition through multiple seasons, and the neutral palette means you don’t have to worry about coordinating! It’s fall fashion made easy:
1. Slouchy Trousers
Professional wardrobe essential, but more comfortable (and forgiving) than those high-waisted skirts.
CASCH, $450
2. A ¾ sleeve jacket
Worn in a neutral colour, this piece will take you from late summer, through fall, and right into winter.
3. Lace
From scarves to full dresses, lace is making a serious comeback.
4. Ruffles
They add a feminine touch to masculine pieces and neutral colours. Just a little detail can make a big difference.
Banana Republic silk ruffle dress, $150
5. Black riding boots
A staple in any wardrobe, you’ll never have to worry about these being ‘unfashionable’.
J. Crew Long Brewster leather boots, $198
6. Berry and Jewel toned handbags in the colours of the season.
Nine West Precisely Gathered Clutch, $69
7. Grey knitwear
Rag & Bone Balloon Poncho, $495
8. Black pointy-toe pumps
I personally don’t think that these ever left, but this fall they are definitely back.
Stuart Weitzman, $275
9. A statement necklace – an easy and beautiful way to add some colour to this season’s wardrobe.
10. A camel trench coat
No explanation necessary!
Banana Republic classic trench coat, $225
