Fall Into Fashion Surprise Makeover

Last week, Fairview Mall invited Lisa and Wendy from The Hip and Urban Girls, Michelle from Beauty Editor and myself from ChickAdvisor to participate in Fairview Mall’s Makeover Challenge. Each of us was given $250 and the task of finding one lucky shopper to receive a surprise makeover. I know what you’re thinking, tough job. Right?

Remember that scene from Clueless where Cher and Dion give Britney Murphy’s character a makeover? I love that scene. I also love when Dion exclaims, ‘Cher’s main thrill in life is a makeover!’ because I know exactly how Cher feels.

The Makeover:

The first part of the challenge was to find a Fairview shopper to get an on the spot makeover. The first person I approached said no! Can you believe that? Luckily, I found Anna soon after, who was going back to school for her Masters and was shopping for school.

Being given this task is a hefty responsibility, but my makeover subject, Anna Lambrinos, was awesome! Anna’s personal style is very casual and laid back. She wanted a look that’s a bit more grown up, edgy and comfortable at the same time.

There were several things I focused on to achieve her overall look.  The blazer, fall colour palette and of course a few key accessories.

The Fall Blazer:

I am absolutely obsessed with blazers. They’re essentials in my closet and I especially love them for layering during fall.

Every fall season, there’s a twist to the blazer trend. Remember the Balmain-inspired power shoulder blazer trend from 2 seasons ago? This fall, I’m seeing blazers with leather detailing, structure and flattering cuts.

We started at Zara and found this beautiful blazer with leather panels (C$99.99). It was edgy but not too casual so I chose it as the focal point and built the rest of the outfit around it.

Fashion Tip: Invest in a few quality blazers for fall. You can create many looks by layering on different textures, prints and colors. Here, instead of pairing the blazer with a plain white shirt, we paired it with a printed wolf tee from Forever 21 (C$18.80) to give it a more edgy feel.

The Fall Palette:

I wanted to add some colour to the outfit to make it pop. I chose a pair of skinny jeans in fall’s It colour: Maroon. This pair from H&M was a steal at only $29.99.

Fashion Tip: When choosing colours for fall, think warm nature inspired shades like maroon, mustard yellow, red and ochre. It isn’t necessary to go out and buy an entire new wardrobe for fall. Look for a few key statement pieces in trendy colors to update your closet.

The Fall Accessories:

Clockwise. Anna trying on a pair of booties from Nine West / Getting glammed up at Sephora / A blow out at Tonyc to complete the look

Spikes and Studs are everywhere this season. We picked up these Zara Studded suede smoking slippers (C$49.99) and Forever 21 rhinestone pyramid spike earrings (C$4.80) as finishing touches to the outfit.

We completed Anna’s look with a makeover from Sephora and a blowout from Tonyc and she’s ready to rock it!

Vote for your favourite blogger makeover

I love Anna’s fall look and how versatile each of the pieces are. It’s an outfit I’d definitely wear.  What do you think?

Voted! I definitely think this look was the best out of the three. The purple dress was second best, and the other outfit was ok, but it didn't look like a big makeover and looked like something anyone could just pick out. Wish that coulda been me getting a makeover!

She looks awesome before and after :-) Man she must have felt like this was something out of a movie... being approached by a stranger and asked to do a free clothes / makeup / hair makeover! She seems like a sweet girl, very happy for her :) :) It's good to have experiences like this in life :)

@Mandy, i'm with u gf, my own main thrill in life is a makeover. My one fix to cure all is shopping <3 You must have felt awesome doing this too! I know I would have a blast doing a makeover :)

She looks grown up but she had a lot going for her from the get go. Pretty girl to start with. I'd love to see a make over on a plain jane type.

Everything looks really nice, except for the shoes, it just seems a bit out of place, but otherwise she looks great.I think I might go to Forever 21 to get me one of those blazers, so cute.
