Fall Makeup Trend: Purple Palettes
The Smokey Eye has long been a favourite look of ours. This season, try adding some vibrant shades of purple to your lids for a dramatic pop!
Lily Allen, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna
Try out a palette of graduated plum shades to emulate Lily and Kim, or take on a single purple colour to achieve a look like Rihanna’s. Here are some that we recommend...
(1) Urban Decay Eye Shadow in 'Crash', (2) Rimmel London Glam’Eyes Mono Eyeshadow in 'Purple Romance' (available in February 2011), (3) CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 3-Kit Shadows in 'Dance Party', (4) NYX Eyeshadow Trio in 'Purple/Deep Purple/Prune', (5) Maybelline New York Eye Studio Eyeshadow Quad in 'Legendary Italic', (6) The Body Shop Eye Palette in 'Twilight', (7) NARS Single Eyeshadow in 'Daphne', (8) Estee Lauder 5-Color Eyeshadow Palette in 'Surreal Violet'
Do you prefer pastel purples and lilacs, or are you a fan of the bold, indigo hues?

I have eyes which are a mix between blue and green and I find that a lot of purples and even burgundy/wine type colors look very good on me, although I would never go with the happy-hooker style in the photos above. Seriously ugly looking! They look like some of the ridiculous photos of old friends in elementary school who were trying out their first cheap eye shadow. NOT a good look for anybody.
That Nars bold purple caught my as well beautiful! The purple sure looks pretty on the stars with brown eyes!I have very light blue eyes so I dont think purple would look good on me at all unless its very pale.
Yes, purple can be tricky. I have green eyes, so from the Colour Theory angle, it's a great shade for me! I prefer to wear it as either a light lavender highlight or mixed in with black/grays for a smokier look. I don't think I'd go monochrome with this one.
I love purple eyeshadow but you definitely have to know how to apply it or it can make you look tired. Speaking from unfortunate personal experience here.
the bold purple from Nars caught my eye! |
