Fashion Week S/S 2010: How to Wear It Now

| Sunday November 8, 20092 comments
After the excitement of Spring/Summer 2010's international Fashion Weeks, surely you can’t help but feel a little bummed at the cold months to come.  While you will have to wait to get your Dior, Marc Jacobs and Pink Tartan spring fix, trendy stores are stocking the looks you’re craving adapted for now - Fall 2009.

From florals to plaid, bold prints were all the rage in Europe and NYC.  For a great floral blue and metallic gold cocktail dress, head to H&M ($39.95 US); to cover up in style, try the plaid bomber jacket from American Eagle Outfitters ($99.95)

From London to Toronto, runways showed plenty of frills and sexy lace.  Old Navy’s Women's Ruffled Jacquard Top perfects the look of the everyday ruffle ($29.50, sleeveless $26.50), while Bebe’s Lace Semi Sheer Tee ($39) can easily take you from day to night.

During Toronto’s fashion week, we saw plenty of sequins.  French Connection's City Sparkle Dress ($198) is perfect for a special evening.  For the more fashion-adventuresome, H&M has great options including a sequin vest ($34.95).

As the shows proved the strong shoulder is here to stay for a while, so invest in a great blazer that you can start wearing now and keep through next spring and summer.  Urban Outfitters' Silence and Noise Studded Boyfriend Blazer ($88) emphasizes the bold shoulder with some trendy studs.

From leathers to furs, faux is fierce! Zara is your go-to for the perfect faux fur waistcoat ($79.90) and Aritzia’s faux leather leggings are your new wardrobe staple ($98).  My pick is a faux leather acid wash skirt by Silence and Noise (Urban Outfitters, $68) which earns extra trend points for its exposed zipper.

As always, no Chick should leave home sans accessories!  Add some sparkle and shine with the Flicker, Flicker necklace from Anthropologie ($168) or a messy crystal and pearl pastiche necklace from J.Crew ($135).  For added ruffle, throw a cashmere squiggle scarf under your coat (Anthropologie, $109)

Perhaps the most important yet least expensive accessory you will buy all year will be patterned tights.  A front row as well as a runway staple, Martin and Osa’s Luster and Herringbones ($10) will do the trick and can be worn day and night!

What was your favourite trend coming out of the Fashion Weeks?
