Hair Transformation: DIY Dip Dying and Colour Streaks

Dip dying is one of the hottest hair trends right now, not just with natural colours, as in an ombre style but with pinks, oranges, blues- you name it! Using bolder colours to streak your hair, underneath or in certain areas, is a good balance for an 'in your face colour'. Dying just the ends of your hair is a funky way to have some colour, but still look natural. Finally, go for faded tones in a coral or peach for something different but still on trend.

We love the idea of dip dying and streaking our hair but we aren't in love with the idea of permanent dyes or having to bleach our hair first then applying the dye (since all of our hair is so dark). So- we decided to put Kevin Murphy's new product- Color.Bug to the test! Read our reviews over here for our reactions and for more info about the product.

We tried out three shades- orange, pink and purple and we're pretty thrilled with the results.

Shiori goes for pink and purple streaks that frame her face.

Alexandra opts for fiery oranges with touches of pink for something bright and daring.

Mandy's hair almost looks like it's fading into a natural brown with her touches of pink and orange.

I'm not a huge fan, but I work in a pretty conservative environment where this wouldn't go over well at all - seems like something best left to those under 25?

You ladies look lovely! I've been seeing dip dyed hair everywhere lately, and it's definitively a fun trend!

I'd go with a more nature color - I like the idea

I love the idea! Would it work well with short hair?

I'm not really a fan of this look but I think Mandy's hair looks great! I wouldn't personally do this on myself though.

I adore Mandy's look- it's just a little bit of pop so I dig it! I like the ombre' hair effect trend but it can look a little cooky if overdone!

I really like dip dying. I used to do it myself but that was like 5 years ago, before this craze started. The end of my hair was a sort of bluish-turquoise and the rest of my hair was(and still is) black.

One tip, if you are NOT dying your hair a warm color ( red, orange, raspberry), is to wash the bleached part of it with one of those blue shampoos. It helps in not making the cool tone ( bubblegum pink, violet, blue, green/turquoise) turn brass colored.

I love dip dying, colouring and streaking your own hair, especially when you can try it yourself without paying the high salon prices. I think a bit of streaks and dips are okay so long as you don't stray too far away from your own natural hair colour. It makes people look younger and hip. I like the looks of all three ladies, especially Mandy's.
