Holiday Beauty Tips

Magical, enchanting, simply fabulous – it's what the holiday season is all about. Time to put the gremlins of the past year behind us and paint the town red!  "There has been a loss of celebration," L’Oreal Paris Official Hair Artist and Colourist in Canada, Eric Del Monaco, tells us. “It is time to glam it up this holiday!”

ChickAdvisor went backstage at LG Toronto Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010 for a tutorial with Del Monaco.  Taking the up-do to a new level, he encourages us to be creative with hair this season by adding lots of texture, volume, and glamourous accessories.

Tools you’ll need:

* Velcro Rollers
* Volumizing mousse
* Bobby pins
* Blow Dryer
* Strong hold hairspray
* Jewelled hair clips

Step 1: Apply a volumizing mousse like L’Oreal Studio Line Indestructible Volume Mousse from root to ends when hair is wet. Use L’Oreal Studio Line Indestructible Volume Spray at roots when hair is dry.

Step 2: Section out the front of the hair from hair line to crown. Place medium sized Velcro rollers on a diagonal in the front. Add rollers to the remaining sections for added volume and body. Spray a strong hold spray like L’Oreal Elnett Strong Hold Spray all over prior to blow drying.

Step 3:  Give your hair a blast of hot hair with your blow dryer for about 5-10 minutes.

Step 4: To set the waves, cool the hair with your dryer or diffuser.

Step 5: To hold the waves, spray hairspray while taking out the rollers. Comb out the waves with your fingers.

Step 6: Gather hair in little sections at a time. Section your hair starting from the ear and work your way up by pinning hair in loose pin curls. Criss-cross two bobby pins to secure each pin curl.

Step 7:  Grab lower section and wrap in loose pin curls across the bottom.

Step 8: The look should be glamourous but effortless. Let a few hairs fall loose to make it look more whimsical. Add some show-stopping accessories on the top and bottom to kick it up a notch like Goody LUXE Reese Barrettes, or try feathers from True Birds to channel your inner ‘20s flapper girl.

Step 9: Once the look is in place, give your hair a good spray so you can schmooze the night away!

Complete this glamourous 'do with perfect holiday makeup. If you’re wearing something understated, don’t be afraid to play up your paint:

* Try a shimmering coloured shadow like NARS Strada or go with a bold lip colour like Lise Watier Rouge Gourmand in Bordeaux.  Avoid a strong eye and lip together - choose one.

* Party dresses this year are full of glitz and sparkle. Avoid looking like a shiny mess by keeping shimmery makeup to a minimum. A smoky eye with lots of black liner like Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in Mat Black paired with a semi-matte nude lip like Lipstick Queen Sinner Lipsticks, looks best with metallics and sequins.
