Some of these seem a little to personal for acquaintances (like the books), I think more neutral things would be best for someone you barely know. But over all good list

I ask the people I care about what they want if I have no other ideas. Otherwise, I just try to be observant as to what they're interested in and what they've been eyeing all year but haven't gone out and bought themselves.
