Hot Celeb Hair Trend: The Pixie Cut

Posted by Cathy | Monday December 13, 20107 comments

Drawing inspiration from 60s hair icons Twiggy and Edie Sedgewick, the newest It-hairstyle is the polished and pretty pixie cut.

The beauty of a pixie cut is that it won't make you a slave to styling products, gizmos and gadgets.  You can add volume or create a piecey look by simply using your fingers.  Use a bit of styling wax to hold in place and you're all set!

Some of our favourite celebs are chopping off their lengths and going for boy-short hairdos.

Carrie Mulligan, Emma Watson, Cate Blanchett

The man behind Emma Watson new cut, Rodney Cutler says that most women can wear a pixie as long as the stylist adapts the cut to their face shape.  If you have a round face, you can mask the fullness of your cheeks by keeping the sides slightly shaggy.  If your forehead is wide, keep the bangs longer and brush them to the side.

Agnyess Denn, Michelle Williams, Maggie Gyllenhall

If you're going for this cut, you will need a monthly cut to keep the shape.  But with all the time you'll save on your morning routine, it'll be worth it.

Are you daring enough to go boy-short?

Nikki you could totally pull it off. You have great bone structure. You must show us when you do!

I have ALWAYS wanted to get this haircut, and I think I have the guts to do it, it's just that my mom would probably freak out. I'd probably wait til summer to chop off all my hair though!

I got this cut in the summer because I had a bad dye job and wanted to get it all cut out of my long hair they did lots of texture work with the scissors which is the big thing to make this look work really well(you definatley need a good hairdresser to do it) I then got choosen to do the garnier hair review on here.I loved the new look and new color to boot. Now that my hair is growing out it is very hard to manage as mamaluv said.Thank goodness its so cold here so most of my days are hat days now lol.

They all look adorable! This is such a cute look!! However, despite what the talented stylist says, I am 99.99999...9 % sure that i couldn't pull this off :)

I wore a pixie cut for a while and the hat head/bed head was something I've never quite experienced before. Holy moly, and they say that long hair is hard to manage? Other way around in my case.

I love these cuts, but they must be expertly snipped as any mistake would stand out more than in longer styles.

@Spotty, I bet you'd look great with a pixie cut!

I think these short cuts look amazing on the celebs pictured but I could never pull this look off. I especially like Michelle Williams' hair.

YES! I love these pixie hair cuts. I went short back in February and have been progressively going shorter and shorter. The only drawback is what is mentioned in the article - more frequent haircuts. Another negative is dealing w/ winter hats - your typical winter beanie may make you look like a cancer patient. :-/
