How Honest Are Your Friendships?

There are a few friends I can count on for brutal honesty. My Argentinian friend, Giselle will tell me anything.
"Alee, why is thees in your closet? My mother would wear thees!"
"That dress with those tights?? Forget it!!!"
"Alee, what is this perfume you are wearing? Is it Pink Sugar?"
Me, thinking a compliment was forthcoming: "Well my body lotion smells like Pink Sugar, but my perfume is actually Bond No. 9."
"Next time just use one. It's too much, Alee. I only tell you this because you are my friend."
While some might find that level of honesty overbearing, I am grateful to be spared the public embarrassment of spinach in my teeth, something up my nose or committing a fashion faux pas. Isn't it better to hear that sort of thing from a dear friend than to discover it on a trip to the washroom after you've been making the rounds all night gaffawing in someone's face with bad breath or with a booger peering out of your nose?
It's hard to tell someone you care about they are in need of some adjustments, but a true friend should do it quickly and privately.
Some say a true friend shouldn't mention it and just love you boogers and all, but I think silence on those fronts is like sabatoge.
What do you think? What's the most embarrassing thing a friend has spared you from?
