How to Apply False Eyelashes

| Sunday March 21, 20103 comments
False eyelashes are a sure-fire way to give your eyes that instant Wow factor. They can play up a natural look or add drama to sultry smokey eyes. Many women feel intimidated about applying false lashes, but with the right technique and some practice, you’ll wonder what you ever had to fear.

What you need:

* A pair of false eyelashes, like Ardell 100% Human Hair Full False Eyelashes
* scissors
* Eyelash Glue, like Duo Eyelash Adhesive
* Any thin-handled eye shadow brush
* Mascara, like Marcelle Volume Precision Mascara
* Eyeliner

Step 1: Prep your Eyelashes

You should apply your false eyelashes after you have completed your eye makeup. Curl your eyelashes and apply mascara and eyeliner. This will help meld your real lashes with your false ones.

Step 2: Measuring and Trimming

Gently tug at the base of the false eyelashes and remove them from the package. Place their base on your lash line to roughly measure their length. Trim the excess.

Step 3: Apply False Eyelash Glue

How to apply false eyelashes

Hold the false eyelashes by their tip with the base facing up, and lightly and evenly coat the base with some eyelash glue. You need only just enough to cover the base. Quick tip: apply a little bit more on the outer edges, as the ends of the lashes tend to lift easily.

Wait at least 15 seconds or till the glue becomes tacky. If the glue is too runny or dry, it will not adhere well to your lash line. While you are waiting, you can hold the ends of the lashes and wiggle them. This will shape the false eyelashes to better fit the contours of your eye.

Step 4: Apply False Eyelashes

Once the glue is tacky, place the base of the false eyelashes as close to your lash line as possible. Starting from the middle, lightly press the false eyelashes onto your lash line. Repeat on the outer and inner corners.

My little trick is to use the back of your thin handled eye shadow brush to gently press the false eyelashes onto your eyelids and push them closer to your lash line. When the glue has almost dried, place the same brush end under your false eyelashes and give them a lift.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

Once the glue is completely dried, finish off your look with some eyeliner and a coat of mascara to really merge together your real and false eyelashes.
