How to Clean Like a German

This weekend, my Grandmother ("Oma") was in town for a visit.  By that statement, you may have guessed that she's German and by default, so am I.  It is a universal truth that Germans like a clean house; and by clean, I mean thoroughly, impeccably, eat off the ground clean. And if you're going to 'eat off the ground' it's crucial that the cleaning products used are as natural and environmentally friendly as possible.

So Friday night when all I wanted to do was enjoy a little r & r with a book and a glass of red, I set about cleaning my place with fervour.  Forget the basic vacuum and tidy, this was all about the details.

I started with the grout in the shower because I couldn't bear the thought of my Oma spying years of water and soap scum build-up in the shower door.

Next up, the light switches and picture frames.  I actually do this every week!  Picture frames get quite dusty and light switches are every bit as dirty as doorhandles so they need to be wiped down.

Then I moved on to the chandelier.  This is a task I've been putting off for some time.  It's not easy to clean and I wasn't sure what to clean it with.  The Greenworks wipes were perfect and it only took me a few minutes.

(1) Glass & Surface Cleaner, (2) All-Purpose Cleaner, (3) Bathroom Cleaner, (4) Cleaning Wipes

I always dust counter tops and bookshelves with a microfiber cloth and few spritzes of All Purpose Cleaner and then polish any glass with the Glass Cleaner to make every surface sparkle.

My Oma must have approved of my clean place because the only subject I failed was why I don't have any children yet!

Thanks Becky! Serious? You've never cleaned? You are missing out on a world of fun.

Well now that's not true at all. But you'd better figure it out fast for your move out!

Hey is your Mom available to come clean my place?

Please don't hate me, but I've never had to clean my own room (other than tidy up) 'cuz my mom always took care of that... and she's a clean freak so I really don't know one end of the duster from the other. But am moving out so now I'm really trying to learn as much as I can about what cleans what, and what needs to be cleaned how. I can't stand the smell of most cleaning agents but my mom uses Green and the scent is mild compared to the others out there. The Green Works product line is awesome for someone like me!! I especially like the 'all-purpose' no brainer and the wipes.

Btw I loved reading the article, very funny :-) looking at your home I'm sure your Oma is proud :-)

It's not a strong smell. Much more pleasant than most cleaning products and they work well!

It's a lemony citrusy smell. If you like Mr Clean (regular or the Febreze scented versions), you'll find this similar. I haven't tried the entire line, but I'd definitely say the smell is on the delicate side, not pungent at all. It's milder than Pine Sol. Hope that helps!

I have used many of the Green Works items and feel they work every bit as well as any other cleaning products. I particularly like the all-purpose cleaner and the laundry detergent!
