Is This Weird Product The Secret to Clear Skin?

Not too long ago I started having some major skin issues. Like a twitter feud between two celebs, my face and the rest of my body were in constant battle, and things were getting ugly. Since then, my skin has calmed down somewhat (mostly due to prescriptions from my doctor and a good skincare routine), but I've still been experiencing some small crops of pimples.

Since I've been manically searching for a cure, I came across a crazy solution that people seem to swear by: diaper rash cream.

That stuff for baby butts is supposedly excellent for your skin. The active ingredient, zinc oxide, dries out those nasty little buggers. Plus, the cream is great for chapped skin and dry patches (think eczema or rosacea). Apparently, it's also suitable for sensitive skin! It helps to prevent rashes and according to some, it prevents those icky bumps after shaving, especially near your bikini line. I hadn't heard of the benefits of zinc oxide before, but I had heard of just zinc. Zinc is also great for acne prone skin.

While I was initially skeptical about using baby bum cream on my face, I have to say the promising benefits are intriguing. Plus, it can't be worse than haemorrhoid cream, right?

1. Aveeno Baby Diaper Rash Cream (C$9.39)

2. Desitin Maximum Strength Original Diaper Rash Ointment (C$17.99)

3. Now Foods Zinc (C$6.99)

4. Penaten Medicated Cream (C$10.59)

Have you ever tried zinc or zinc oxide for your skin? Let me know how it went and if you recommend it!

When ever I feel a pimple starting, or just seem to have extremely oily skin, I take a zinc tab and sublingual B complex. It works every time without fail.

Well the saying is "soft as a baby's bottom", so maybe there is something to this.

I have some chaffing cream (bought to carry with me for long days in short-shorts), but when rubbed in, it has a thick, powdery-white residue; if I rub it in til that goes away, it barely feels like there's cream left on my skin (so now pointless). I'm I using the wrong amount, using it wrong, or what?
Having read this, I'd love to try it on my arms to see if I noticed a difference, but won't go around with pale, white powdery arms...

I've never heard this but it would be interesting to try it. I have hormonal acne, so usually topical applications don't really work on me.

@tashacat that's a good point about zinc in normaderm! I did read also that if you start taking zinc in tablet form you should start taking copper as well. I think it would actually be easier to simply eat more foods that contain zinc. Funny about the zinc in sunblocks, I read someone homemade sunscreen recipe that contained zinc oxide but some people are known to have breakouts to sunscreen.

Interesting. Vichy's line Normaderm has a zinc base... and its for acne. Also, zinc taken in tabs does keep acne down... but you just can't keep taking zinc all the time. Would totally try topical zinc. I wonder if the zinc in sunblocks would have the same effect or if they are too chemically different

I have not heard of this before. I have so much Penaten cream at home that I received at my baby shower but haven't had to use since my little guy has not had a diaper rash yet, I'm definitely going to try this out on my face.
