It's Thyme To Stop Acne With This DIY

Mind = Blown.

As you know, I am always on the hunt for new acne cures and I happened upon one not too long ago that involved thyme! Ladies, according to new research, thyme may actually be one of the most effective treatments out there for acne. Not only is it an antibacterial powerhouse, but studies suggest that an herbal treatment with thyme may do better for your skin that a product like benzoyl peroxide (via sciencedaily.com

Chicks, if you've got thyme, get ready to get rid of acne.

You can use thyme in a number of ways with your regular beauty routine. One of the simplest ways is to infuse a liquid with it to create a toner. Use the toner after your regular cleanser (I would even suggest trying out a sensitive skin cleanser with this toner) and before a moisturizer.

The toner can be made with a few items. I would suggest witch hazel for its soothing properties, however, you can also try rubbing alcohol or even vodka for a stronger mix (but I prefer my vodka with a bit of cran, just sayin'). You can use fresh or dry thyme for a toner.

Aside from witch hazel or alcohol, you could also try infusing an oil. I would recommend using jojoba or argan oil. Since the oil is quite moisturizing, it would balance out any harshness from the thyme and would be great for someone with dry or combination skin.

You should let your infusion sit for a good two weeks before straining the thyme out, but you will be able to use the toner within 30 minutes. Because it's a natural product, it's shelf life won't be more than a month, so be sure to pitch it if it starts to smell funky!

1. Thyme
2. Thyme Essential Oil
3. Bottle for your toner

You could also add a few drops of thyme essential oil to an oil and use as a serum. You don't need too much either, it's quite potent!

You can also use thyme in a homemade scrub. Remember when I made a scrub from a toner? You can apply the same method here. Alternatively, add a little dry, ground thyme to a scrub recipe.

Now, y'all know I love me a good mask. In addition to using them as a deep cleaning system, I use masks to spot treat really mean spots. You could totally use the toner, mixed with bentonite clay powder. Now, this would really work to absorb all the oil and may even be a bit too drying, so don't go overboard! Of course, a DIY mask is always a good idea in my book, so if you have a mask you want to try, add a bit of thyme or some thyme toner to your DIY recipe.

Have you heard of using thyme for acne before? Would you or have you tried it?

@Takoda Thyme essential oil should be available at any health food store or even the health section of a grocery store. It should usually be around $15.00. I'll link to a site as well in the article. If you wanted to test this out first, I would try using fresh or dried thyme since it is cheaper.
