Jason Wu to Hawk Nail Polish (and We Likey!)

Jason Wu is branching out into nailwear, we're hearing.  And Girlfriends, we like what we're seeing.

The designer came to popular awareness thanks to Michelle Obama, and counts the lovely Natalie Portman (People's Choice Awards, 2011) among his clientele.

"Every season I play with different ways of using color in my collection, so it was a natural choice to collaborate with CND on a capsule of nail colors that reflects my aesthetics," says Jason Wu.

His collection will include (from left to right) "The Anna Effect", a top coat with microscopic fibers that will lend a tweedy look to the base colour; "Miss Wu", a pale gray matte colour with sheen (and Wu's signature colour); "Brigette", a warm pink named for Ms Bardot; "Sophia", a soft mushroom in homage to Ms Loren; and "Veronica", an oxblood red named for 1940s siren Veronica Lake.

The collection will launch in May 2011 for £49.95, and all we want to know is: where can we get our hands on it?  Stay tuned...

Are you excited for this collection?  Or are you feeling a little "meh"?

It is way too much to spend on nail-polish. Especially since nail polish has one of the shortest expiration dates of most beauty products... The colors are very pretty though, but I feel like you could achieve the same look with OPI or Sally Hansen even.

These colours are great, but I agree with Cathy I couldn't justify spending that much on polish.....if anyone needed a ideas for a birthday present however, I would be more than happy to accept these!

Unfortunately the writeup wasn't clear if the whole package of 5 was included in that price. If so, each polish would work out to roughly $15 CAD (using today's exchange rate), which is cheaper than many other elite polishes and only a little more than OPI. I think I'm most excited about the "Anna Effect" top coat to pair with my existing lacquer collection!

No doubt the colours are great, they are classic and clean, but I'd never spend that much for nail polish.
