Let the Games Begin: Winter Olympics Party Ideas
I am not exactly what you might call "sporty" or "athletic" or "able to lift something", though I do appreciate the Olympic season. While the summer Olympics are great for getting your fill of eye candy (hello men's diving), I actually prefer the winter Olympics. There is something about being oh-so-cozy indoors watching someone ski while the snow rages that makes me feel good about life. In the spirit of watching people with more hand-eye coordination than you, here are some amazing ideas for hosting your very own Olympic viewing party.
1. Hand out vintage medals to your guests. You can even make it a fun competition or game throughout the party. Try thrift stores or online (Amazon, eBay), in a pinch you can even go to the dollar store.
2. Bring the gold home with glittery accents on your table. I love this gold serving plate from Zara. It's fun without being too cheesy. Zara Home Hammered Golden Serving Plate (C$99.90)
3. I like the idea of bringing your guests together around one central area. So why not serve a punch? This punchbowl is a total winner for style and functionality. CB2 Punch Bowl with Laddle (C$49.95)
4. & 5. These folk art inspired pillows and napkins are a colourful addition that not only chicly showcase Olympic colours but also give a homey, traditional feel. Folkloric Pillows (C$24.99, at Sears) & Napkins (C$12.99/4, at Sears)
6. Inject some playfulness into your party with Umbra Pongo Ping Pong Game (C$40.00). Just set it up on a table. Perhaps some beer pong?
1. If ping pong isn't your thing, try some laidback bocce ball instead, right on your carpet floor. Carpet Bocce (C$14.00)
2. Test your guests aim with the Nodor Bristle Dart Board (C$56.99)
3. Watch the two man luge while gorging on some delicious molten cheese. Mmmmm... STAUB Fondue Pot (C$250.00)
4. Show your Canadian pride and keep warm with the HBC Collection Charles Pachter Baywatch Throw (C$295.00)
5. Keep some cold ones nearby in this fun ice bucket. Party Bucket (C$20.65)
6. Athletes need to keep hydrated if they want to be at their best performance and with all that dart throwing and ping ponging, your guests will need to as well. Have a large dispenser on hand so guests can self serve. You can even jazz it up with some delish additions. CB2 Glass Beverage Dispenser (C$39.96, on sale)
And let's not leave out the food, shall we? Because the Olympics are all about featuring different countries, bring your guests an international fare:
1. Have international beers on hand. I'm a big fan of anything German or Belgium.
Have a few smaller sharing plates of some well known cuisines from around the world: 2. Poutine to support Canada, 3. Swedish or Italian Meatballs, 4. English fish n' chips, 5. Delish Asian dumplings
And don't forget cute extras that make your party special:
1. Yummy Torches: Popcorn torches made with ice cream cones
2. Olympic ring cookies and even more Olympic adorable here
3. Olympic ring candy cocktail: try with champagne or sprite and a kick of flavoured vodka
4. Gold star cocktail: this would also work for your next Oscar viewing bash
5. Olympic shots (featuring Blue Curacao, Creme de Banane, coffee, Midori, and Aftershock cinnamon liqueur)
Have fun! Will you be tuning in to the Olympics?

I'm with @flower. I love watching the figure skating!
I can't wait for the Winter Olympics to start. I don't know why but I actually prefer watching it over the summer Olympics - I find the games more exciting to watch specially bobsled and skiing. Surprisingly, I've also become a fan of curling.
I'm obsessed with biathlon (X-country skiing & air rifle shooting). So weird, right? I love it. I will watch anything for the Olympics though. Hockey, bobsled, downhill skiing, speed skating, and freestyle skiing are other favourites. I used to be a huge fan of figure skating but not so much anymore.
