MAC Yanks Controversial Rodarte Juarez Line

Posted by Claire | Wednesday August 18, 20103 comments

The reaction to MAC's new Fall/Winter 2010 line with Rodarte, originally dubbed 'Juarez', came under tremendous pressure for the perceived insensitivity to the real-life challenges faced by women and girls in the namesake Mexican town.

Their attempts to make good through charitable works and donations apparently weren't enough, and now we hear straight from the horse's mouth that the line is terminado.  Despite abandoning the planned launch, MAC has no intentions to cancel their goodwill efforts in the region.

Are you disappointed you won't see this collection, or do you think it was the right thing to do?

In the end, it was probably the most sensible thing to do. They made a big boo-boo by releasing it without doing a smidgen of research about Juarez.

That said, I wouldn't mind if they took the same make-up colours and concepts and applied them to another collection. Some of the pieces were rather nice (save for that "blood-streaked" eyeshadow).

MAC isn't straying from their original plan for the region so I see no need NOT to see the collection. After all ' a rose by another name...'. And you can never go wrong with Rodarte, those girls rock it!!

MAC is still planning to donate all projected profits from this collection to the cause.
